Why is Morrissey's music getting darker and darker and more sinister? As a fan since The Smiths I've listened to what he's said in his music and elsewhere over the years and, as much as I love the music, I'm starting to think that he might be, you know, Satan.

Darker? Darker than 'Suffer Little Children'? Darker than 'Sing Me To Sleep'? Darker than 'Girlfriend In A Coma' (well apart from the Music to that one)?

some knob head is gonna correct you..but not me! the only reason i've posted this is cause its 3am and i'm completely bored. so bite your tongue (or hand) and don't reply by saying its actually called 'asleep' cause it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally doesen't matter
fair point there mate. suffer little children was in the first ten 10 songs morrissey ever wrote (including the ones he tried before marr) did he get much darker than that? asleep is perhaps on the same level. thats talking about his own death and suffer little children is about the utterly terrible deaths on the moors 5 minutes from my house. everytime i listen to that song i have to shut my curtains so i can't see them.
however perhaps satan took over morrisseys body and wrote roy's keen. it is the most evil thing imaginable. making morrissey release a single that starts off terricly with 'go on!' then suddenly hitting us with a shite melody with shiter lyrics. even if the 'hold it steady' bit is passable i still despise listening to that song. Satan then probably realised that he had been evil enough and let morrissey free...promting him to pen (can u guess whats coming?) 'satn rejected my soul'

Sure, Suffer Little Children is very dark subject matter, but because Morrissey was obviously so horrified by those events it showed a warm, human side to him. I don’t see that side anymore.
These days more and more of his songs just seem to be full of pure hatred, sometimes directed at specific people, but other times you just sense the hatred, you don’t know who it’s directed at. Of course paradoxically he sings a lot about love too, but I feel it’s really “theoretical” love if you get my drift – I don’t think he’s capable of real love, hence the Satan thing.
More and more I just get the impression that there’s a cold, cold, dead heart there.
Still like the music though!
BTW – wasn’t Girlfriend In A Coma just a big joke from start to finish?
