Thoughts On Sleeves & Poll (of sorts)

I know the music is most important, but as a 'side salad' to the 'main course', sleeve artwork has always been an interesting part of Smiths/Moz releases...

As a designer, I'd love to get everyones thought on this! What are some of your favorite Smiths/Moz sleeves & why?

Some of mine would have to be:

1. 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' - wonderfully odd iconographic picture of the king, complete with awkward bowtie, bad haircut & spotty face!

2. 'Suedehead' - a very elegant image start to Mozzie's career. nice printing.

3. 'Hand In Glove' - great image graphically, & an appropriate compliment to the heavily sexual content of much of The Smiths' early work.

4. 'Our Frank' - always looked Shakespearean to me for some reason... like Moz playing Julius Caesar or something...

so many others!

I like the one where Morrissey is impersonating Terence Stamp. Those film stills rock my socks. They are more interesting than actual photographs.

I like the ones without moz,

Roy's Keen comes to mind, as well as southpaw grammar.

Meat is murder and the debut with the warhol are swell..

I would have to cast my lot for "The Queen is dead" album....the coloring is fantastic and simple , all rolled into one

designer:

your query is a good one. i have always been impressed by their timeless aesthetic. it's what i look for in almost all design these days. it creates a very small box in which your design can move around, always thinking, "will this look ok in 10 years?" it often forces you into an understated corner.

but it's quite nice. the best design is design that doesn't force you to think about design. give me LIFE magazine any day over raygun.

in any case, i always like to see designers' pieces. if any of you have any work on the web (carson?!?!), please send me the URL, especially if it's in the same subtle league as work we're discussing here.
