Default America Is Not The World!

I've been a Morrissey Fan for well over 15 years. I love his music, however...I was reading one of the new lyrics for "America is not the world".
Morrissey's sings "Where the president is never black, female or gay, And until that you you've got nothing left to say to me...". Well hell, England and the royal family aren't having any blacks marrying into the family. They'd probably die. The last that I checked, Morrissey lived in California. America does a lot of wrong. We shouldn't have got into a war that is useless (like we are now), George Bush was able to chet his way into office...I can understand what Morrissey means, but I'd still rather live here than anywhere else.

    I still love you Moz!

And Morrissey calls royalty "immoral" and advocates its abolishment.

Look, it's a point well taken that we don't exactly have the most diverse bunch running our government. The two presidential candiates who have a chance of winning both went to the same Ivy League school and while there were both members of a very small and mysterious fraternity called the Skull & Bones.
John Kerry, as a child, used to go sail boating with family friend John F. Kennedy. The Bush family is competing with the Kennedys as some kind of self-appointed American royal family. Kerry and Bush both have multi-millions of dollars that neither of them earned, and have never actually had to live as a normal citizen in their lives. Can Kerry claim to relate to taxpayers when he has mooched hundreds of millions of dollars of two mega-rich wives? How can it be that we pick our leaders from such a small pool of the same old, same old?

I think America *is* ready to elect a black or a female president, and has been for some time. Our system is just not allowing us real choices.

Doubtful that an openly gay candidate would get far. Although many historians believe our 15th president, James Buchanan, was gay and not-very-much in the closet about his love for a Senator whom Andrew Jackson called his "Little Miss Nancy." = )

Yeah, but he's just giving his opinion. I don't agree with him about Iraq in general, as I don't believe there was an option of peace on the table (although I don't support all of the methods in that war). But I understand it's a controversial thing.

He's said he loves both England and America. He's making his attacks in good faith, just as he has done for his entire career on England. Not as some knee-jerk anti-American who thinks we're a "vulgar" culture...and other ignorant things some elitists in Europe buy into. If you really believe in America you'd welcome a thoughtful song-writer like Morrissey voicing his heartfelt opinions. Maybe he wishes better for America because he actually loves the place! And wants it to live up to its claims about itself! Yes, indeed, that's exactly where he's coming from.

Here's hoping he sings "America Is Not The Wolrd" on The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborne, and tells Americans where they can shove their hamburgers! = )

(I'm surprised more people aren't excited about the Kilborne thing. Five nights. That means five songs, right? That's half the album! Starting April 22, I believe is the date??????)

Is he scheduled to sing 5 NEW songs though or is he mixing it up with some old ones. He sang 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' last time he was on.

Possibly, depending on the length of the songs chosen.

I guess we can only speculate. For all we know he'll perform the entire album!

I hope whoever provided us with the MP3 of his last Kilborne performances will do the same this time. I've played those to death. = ) Stupid me, though: I was looking for my videotape of those two shows and I can't fucking find 'em!
May have recorded over them..... : / The tape I *thought* it was on has a bunch of That 70s Show episodes. Of all the stupid things to record over Morrissey with...... = (

He's certainly gonna do the single. But that's rather short, so likely he'll couple it with another song, a la his "Sing Your Life"/"There's A Place In Hell For Me And My Friends" performance on The Tonight show with Johnny Carson.

We're in for a rare television treat, whatever he has planned. = )

I'm sure you are, and I hope we get to see it over here sometime. Is this 5 nights thing unprecedented or have lesser talents also done it?

What sort of audience does this show get? I'm presuming it's on very late but on one of your main national channels.

I don't know if its unprecedented, but it's definitely unusual. I've never seen anyone get 5 nights.

    > What sort of audience does this show get? I'm presuming it's on very late

It's on in the 12:35-1:35AM time slot right after Letterman on CBS. So yeah, it's on one of the big, national channels, but at an hour when it's mostly college-aged viewers. Which I suppose is the age-group Morrissey is after.

The problem with Kilborne is that he's on opposite Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC. Conan's show is way, way funnier and superior and gets more viewers. I mean, shit, Conan used to write for The Simpsons! Conan's also the best interviewer of the late night hosts. I don't know about other people, but for me, I watch Conan and flip to Craig Kilborn for 1 minute doses during commercials. That's about as much of Craig as I need. I don't think he's very funny or that good an interviewer. I also think Morrissey is a better fit with Conan. Conan's an Irish rockabilly boy!

Kilborn reaches just under 1.5 to 2 million viewers:
    >>>>
THE LATE LATE SHOW with CRAIG KILBORN, in the week ending March 26, 2004, scored a 1.5/06 in households with 1.94m viewers, up +15% in households (from 1.3/05) and +25% in viewers (1.56m) from last year.

Thanks for the info. I saw Conan's show on cable (when I had it) a couple of times and he was worth watching. I don't think Kilborne is available over here at all.

I'm similarly excited about Moz's appearance on the Jonathan Ross's show - first time on a regular chat show in the UK, I think.

Loaf- I entirely agree with your astute comments regarding Morrissey and America. The thing that angers me to no end is that NOW the government can look up your library book records and see what kind of books you've checked out ( Like the anarchist cookbook- but I don't think the library carries it- too many people would rip it off ) Can you imagine, some burly empty headed cop coming to YOUR door and checking out what kind of books you read? Doesn't surprise me, really- with the advent of Georgie Porgy Dubya Bush in office ( and you can also thank fucking Ralph Nader for that. He had NO chance of winning anyway and just wanted to make a fucking statement for the Green Party. Ever wonder why Cheney has been sooo very quiet lately? Ashcroft is THE man to fear. All of these diversionary tactics- we have the Internet, worthless television, and all sorts of little things to keep us Americans busy and quiet. So we don't question what is truly happening. Wake up.... Oh yeah, back to Morrissey- I know, it's strange that ( not that I'm complaining ) that he's going to be a guest for FIVE nights running! I am videotaping this one! Of course we're ready for an African American president!!! As well as a female! It's too bad that America can be so puritanical that the very idea of a gay president is practically unheard of. Loaf- as far as Kerry and the Kennedy clan, naturally there's not much of a difference. That's why I haven't bothered to vote for a very long time. There has NEVER been anyone I've totally liked and would stand up for. Clinton is a close one, but he's just a bit too silver tongued for my taste. NO, Kerry cannot possibly understand the circumstance of "normal Americans". HE doesn't know what it's like to eat Top Ramen ( like I've had to ) because the money just wasn't coming in. I think the reason Kerry is becoming so popular is because he reminds people of Kennedy. And JFK he is NOT. I may just become a Libertarian. Carter was the butt of many jokes- but at least he's out there, getting his hands dirty, helping to build houses for people that otherwise cannot afford them. I respect him a lot for that. Anyway, I'll stop because this is sounding like the McNeil Lehrer report. Kali

didn't you hear Condaleeza Rice's testimony yesterday? the Patriot Act is a good thing!

oh, and it's also a good thing that if you hear about an impending terrorist attack that you say, "oh well. i don't know where it's going to be at, so what do they expect me to do?"!
