IBEH - Lame?

It's this worry I'm having. Nagging, annoying, feeling. And I know that I will probably love Quarry. But I can't help thinking that when you compare IBEH - which seems a bit phoney..a bit staged..a bit produced.. with something very early like Handsome Devil, Jeane, etc... well the early stuff is lively. There is an injection of brilliant truth, SPONTANEOUS truth. They sound fresh, even twenty one years on.

But IBEH doesn't have any of this. I get the feeling that if Morrissey was a complete unknown; then the single would not enter the top 200, even on Attack. It just doesn't, for me, stand out enough. Don't get me wrong...I do like it. But I feel that he needs something so vivacous and so sexual..like Handsome Devil..right now.

Yes I know it will get top ten, but that's because of his fame already. What if he was unknown...how would it do then? Not as well as Hand in Glove did back in 1983, I'm pretty sure of that.

Yeah, but Hand In Glove didn't even chart, so it didn't do too well in a commercial sense. I think IBEH is a very good single, stronger than anything he's released since Hold Onto Your Friends, and to think that is ten years old now!

It's Irish Blood English Heart. And a top-notch choice for the single IMHO.

Sir, you compare a handful of Smiths Classics with modern day Morrissey work. With respect, there is no comparison. But in defence of IBEH, for Morrissey Solo work, it's genuinely a good, exciting riff roaring, and pretty powerful song. A great mosh classic, stage managed or not,

Normally I would be worried,(not responding to your TV in the guest bedroom question, whats that about?), but its March madness, the playoffs are about 3 weeks away, oh and something about Morrissey coming out with a CD so that must be it.

I am afraid to say that I too have the same sentiments. I fear the song is not great, but just good.

In my opinion, there must be better choices for the first single of the album.

Ach, I'm not too bothered about the telly now, M. As long as the jacuzzi's working - I'll be happy with that.

Yowsa. After legal advice, we played the studio version of IBEH tonight on BCB (www.bcb.yorks.com). Nice!
