On a punk theme.. my mate turns up on Saturday, bearing in mind he's a video editor (or something technical enhancing old cine/reel/video footage to digital).. and he casually tells me he's got to be quite friendly with non other than Don Letts. Which is a bit cool anyway, but you may be intersted to know that Letts has apparrently bequeathed loads of old punk gig footage he took whilst DJ'ing throughout the punk scene. For those that don't know, he was responsible for a lot of the reggae influences that infiltarted the movement throughout the punk scene. Anyway. and he would have the hand held camera just filming the bands and the crowd. My mate tells me he's seen some great footage (never seen before) of the Pistols, Clash, Banshee's, Stranglers and a lot of obscure punker bandsetc.... it's all there.. Not sure of release dates or if it'll ever be public though.

Just an anecdote to share from Saturday afternoon whilst taking tea on the verrandah!

Hi Ruff,

Mark Perry (Sniffin' Glue,Alternative TV)was on Jools Holland a month or so ago talking about this. It showed a few clips and it does look fascinating.Letts has captured some amazing stuff.

Not sure when it is released but it will be this year some time. Perhaps Radar or Patrick might know.

Sounds wonderful doesn't it.. sitting on a porch somewhere in summertime doing this (with someone special).. tea optional, PIMMS or a G&T even better.. See, I'm not just a jugs and lager man.

I hear he can do wonders with 3 minute shorts, Bluey.. about your length of one of your average sessions !

Will have to keep an eye out for further detalis on this one.

The Stranglers have released a new album, it's actually been getting good reviews, fair play to 'em I say, whatever anyones opinion on the post Hugh Stranglers, they can't do any worse than the shocking '10' album.

Will be going on along to see them at Rock City on whatever date it is, even in 2004 you can't beat 'The Raven' live.

Not only that but they won themselves a recording deal with London Records based on their current material.

No mean achievement in the current record industry climate.
Let me know how the gig goes !

In Record Collector they said it was as good as 'The Raven', that's got to be over the top, as 'The Raven' is widely acknowledged as their masterpiece. Their last album 'Coup De Grace' was a steaming pile of shite, and I said I wouldn't bother with anymore after that, so naturally I will be picking up 'Norfolk Coasts' or 'Norfolk Coast' whatever it is called.

No doubt they will be playing local to you, Glasgow isn't where you are ? They always pencil in a stop there.

We were gonna do the stranglers in London.. but 25 quid a ticket is a bit of a prog satdium rock price for my mates.. especially as its (and no disrespect as I'm a big fan.. its the Stranglers 25 years on!) so we binned it. I thought Cornwell was playing with em again though?

I never had the Raven.. so maybe another Radar recommnedation to buy! What's your review of that work?

£25 ???? It's not that much where I'm going.

The Raven is a superb piece of work, all of their first 8 albums are excellent, from Rattus to Aural Sculpture, after that forget it.
