Did anybody out there go to see the Smiths in 1983 and 1984, or Moz US Tour 1991?

I am doing a profile on Mozzer as part of my postgrad. I want to know what people thought when they first saw Moz on Top of the Pops with his hearing aid, etc.
Also, how were those first Smiths concerts? What was the atmosphere, the energy, the impression given by Mozzer?

And finally, can American fans tell me why they like Moz? Had you seen anything like the Kill Uncle tour before?

I would be SOOO grateful if people could respond, either to me personally or via the site.

    Cheers.

    David,

I saw The Smiths at the Universal Amp. in 84', They were the best thing I had ever seen in my life as far as concerts go. I can only recall one other concert that was just as memorable & that would be Depeche Mode at The Rose Bowl with OMD and Thomas Dolby. The energy that came off of Morrissey's vocals & Marr's guitar were amazing. The Queen is Dead tour was great. As for why I enjoy Moz I think besides Lennon & Weller he is one of the most talented writers of all time, people who can get others to think in their lyrics are magical...

I can only speak for myself when I say that I like Moz because his voice is so beautiful, troubling and soothing at the same time. I also love how his lyrics always seem to fit my life or moods. It's like he knows me (which sounds like such a cliche, but it's true). That's wonderful because when I'm having a crap day, I know I'm not the only one who's ever had those feelings of loneliness. Whenever I feel like there's a big hole in the middle of my body, like there's nothing there and everyone could climb through it if they wanted to, a mighty painful feeling, Morrissey's music is the only thing that can fill it and make me feel whole again.

Anyway, that's why I love Moz. I don't think there's necessarily one thing that makes us Americans like him. We each have our own reasons, many probably mirroring the reasons of the English. But one thing I don't understand, and I might be wrong, but it seems like he's a pretty popular guy over there, but over here I only know two other people that like him: my sister and one of my friends. I don't know why. He's so great, you'd think he'd be more prominent over here than he is.
