Is there any point ever having children?

Surely naming a child after something Morrissey related is a major contradiction, however the Ann Coates you refer to can be seen as Kirsty MacColl who sang an uncredited bit on Bigmouth, so if you have a girl I think Kirsty is much more appropriate.

Personally speaking the idea of having children does not appeal to me, I just can not visualise myself with a pregnant partner to take care of. However the idea of adopting is something I may consider in later life, there are too many kids out there who deserve to lead a normal life and have loving homes.

I wouldn't consider naming a child after Morrissey a contradiction. How could it be a contradiction? The only possible way of it being a contradiction would be if I had some point stated in my life that I will NEVER name my child after something Morrissey related. I dont recall that statement ever being made so therefore it is not a contradiction. If Morrissey has once complained about becoming a father it doesn't mean that I can't have a child. Owning a few of The Smiths albums does not mean I have to live my life in a way that is identical to Morrissey's.

Ann Coates is not Kirsty MacColl! Ann Coates is the result of filtering Morrissey's normal speed vocal through a harmoniser. So, Ann Coates is Morrissey!

Yes I know, but Kirsty also sang a bit of backing vocals on the song which wasn't officially credited. Any excuse for me to give Kirsty a mention really.

You can do what you like, of course, but you say "Owning a few of The Smiths albums does not mean I have to live my life in a way that is identical to Morrissey's." If you can reduce your fan-ship to that statement, why on Bog's green earth would you want to name your kid after him?

Really, I didn't know that. It's just that in 'Songs That Saved Your Life' (I am holding the book in my hand as we speak) there is no mention of Kirsty MacColl's backing vocal. Well nevermind, Kirsty is such an ugly name and I will never name my child after Miss MacColl anyway, even if she did provide backing vocals on 'Bigmouth...'

Well, I was never planning on naming my kid after Morrissey in the first place. Naming my child 'Morrissey' is far too obvious. 'Steven' is a name reserved for football hooligans. And 'Patrick' gives me the image of a drunk Irishman.

Who said stereotypical images were a thing of the past ?

Do you approach everything with the same aggression ?

Kirsty talked about her uncredited backing vocal on Bigmouth in an interview some years ago now.

well put, Ruff.
Besides, none of these girlies have met me yet. If they're ever lucky enough to do so, it won't be long before they have a completely different outlook on the subject. A shy, quiet type like myself may be just what they're looking for.

As my pal Sean might shay,
" Shomeday you might jusht meet the man McCann from Paradishe. Sho never shay never, ladiesh."

Aye....wise words.

ps . you're not so bad yourself, Ruff. I say that in a fraternal, manly way of course.

Don't tar ush all with the shame brush. Shome of ush never touch the shtuff.
You're my besht mate.

Now...where'sh my guinnessh? It wash here jusht a minute ago. What have I done with it?

I would like 5 boys named Eddie, Jeff, Stone, Mike and Dave

Won't happen, my Wife says that's grounds for divorce.

Thanks Patrick.. I'm not saying it's a right point of view.. but it's, without patronising one, maybe one born (pun) from the beauty of experience.. You get a different perspective, and far more adaptive to situation and points of view.

How cool would it be to have a parent who likes Morrissey? Any current or future offspring of someone on this board would be very lucky.
Quiet and shy types are fine, but any potential Daddy would have to consent to DNA testing and sperm analysis. NO two headed slow swimmers.

..exactly Ms.Chill.. Don't reject it.. embrace it (and not the 2headed sperm)if it happens and make the best of the situation.. spread the word.

And my Son has a 'Morrissey lovin Daddy', has to confront a massive Morrissey framed print and Smiths album covers in my hall every day of his life! Although he did try and turn off 'Spring heeled Jim' in the car yesterday and we had a row as he wanted to hear the Sweet 'Set Me Free' instead... (which is a great song if you wanna download some classic 70's rock n'roll)

except that I'm not Chill.
Your son doesn't realize how lucky he is to have you as his Dad. I know all about 70's music. My Dad listened to Peter Frampton, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd. A few years ago I met Peter Frampton and first thing that popped into my head was "My Dad listens to you" and he turned bright red and he walked away.

I asked my lad what his favourite Smiths/Morrissey song is

"the one with the rabbits" he replied.

It was Interesting Drug, his mum lets him watch Hulmerist and The Malady Lingers On.

He's only 6 - bless him!

Ugh, but I've always hated "sprogs." I'm probably going to end up a schoolteacher (next term, I'm going to look into getting an American credential, but then I might try to get a teaching certificate for the UK as well). So a bunch of teenagers in English classes would have a Morrissey-loving teacher. Is that not doing my part to help the younger generations?

I fantasize about teaching a unit on pop music and literature. Guess who my featured artist would be.

Peter Frampton? haha.. you've touched an amusing memory.. Before my tenure in manchester I was (I will be again when I return in Jan I suppose) a DJ.. and I remember one particular night having a great laugh discussing albums everyone seemed to own when I was younger.. 'Frampton Comes Alive' was one of those.. My older brothers playing that really loudly in their bedroom with that crazy voice box thing going on that's never been repeated quite as well anywhere else.

They used to listen to a lot of Zeppelin as well.. hence my appreciation of 'Physical Graffiti' to this very day! I also recall him taking the p1ss out of my love for Roxy Music's Virginia Plain.. and now 25 odd years later, I play it in the band.. how early years form your opinions and taste! I'm sure we've all had those moments. Thanks for sharing those memories of yours though 'Let's Go'. Nice on!

As you can guess, don't get me on about the good old days.. or I'll start talking baout the first time I heard 'Sheena is a punk rocker' next.. which is obviously McCanns area!

Admirable aspirations indeed.. I aspired to teach and achieved it at the beginning of the year.. bloody hard work.. but never got to talk about music.. Did get to show on the projector, my holiday snaps of Niagara Falls and the day I met Jarvis Cocker though which was amusing... (there was a reason btw)

You go for it.. come over here and hang with the English Morrissey homeboys and girls. (Ooops , I almost mispelled that as homo! That's not PC!).. you can teach us anyday.. I know for a fact Bluenose would love to sit in class with us!_
