Star & Garter last night

Went to the S & G last night and was a little, er, inebriated. But I wondered, because it seems to get so busy now and so many people are having to queue to get in, should Dave try to find a bigger venue for it? What does anybody think?

Levenshulme Girl

Don't know... but I met Helen from Levenshulme there and i thought I'd say hello! Are you out there, today?

Interesting question, but i'd keep it where it is.
If a bigger venue is used, where could it be? It would have to be city centre, which means it would be very hard to get a venue on a Friday, you'd get the beermonsters coming in (the S&G is far enough out to keep them away) and it would probably be a fiver to get in.
On top of that, it would be in a new trendy venue that would be out of place. ive been to the Panic nights in Leeds - a great night but the venue is too bright and posh, the S&G is a dive and it somehow adds to the atmosphere!

On another note, I was 'chatted up' outside the venue by one of the 'ladies of the night' on my way in. She was somewhat suprised by my desire to decline her offer of 'a good time' and asked me why. It was quite amusing having to justify myself to a prostitute as to why i wasn't interested in a quickie!

I agree that the S&G is a great venue, like something out of an early Suede video. But a bigger venue might be need if it gets any more popular. I think Slice is quite a nice bar, Tiger Lounge is good there, but maybe it's not right for a Moz/Smiths night. Then there's South, but that might be a bit lacking in atmosphere...

Or the old bierkeller on piccadilly, i noticed it was shut on the way to the S&G last night.

You were accosted by a "lady of the night" OUTside the venue ?

But surely Bluenose was INSIDE the venue

Indeed, I was plying my trade inside. A profitable night on the whole. I came away with 36p, a few old buttons and an empty crisp packet (Beef and Onion). Perhaps the most unusual thing I pressed my lips against was the badge on a Scunthorpe United shirt.

No no no no no no!!!!
I had never seen it that busy so early on, but I don’t think it will be like that at every one. If it was consistently busy, then maybe, but perhaps the recent descent of students on Manchester may have had some bearing.
I definitely think the night should remain at the S&G. The place has the perfect character and ambiance for a Smiths/Moz night!!

Re: Star and Garter Last Night

Yes Mr Goat (MBE) I'd also thought about leaving my car in the S&G carpark overnight but it's a wee bit dodgy area & I was aware that even your good angelic looking self actually got a proposition apo(r)n the way to the S&G! So how cum you were 5 minutes late & only drinking halves btw?
You ought to have cum on the tour with J&L on Saturday (my they are a foxy pair ).
I'm going to send the author of that book Mozzers Manc a thank you cheque! Never realised how much fun it cud be! I will never be able to go in to another Sainsburies toilet without a dirty smirk upon my face again!
J&L said sum pics will be up soon, I'll wait with baited (outta) breath!

Re: Star & Garter last night (FAO Bluenose)

That's SLANDEROUS you nasty man! Wait for the preliminarty enquiries to end and then arrests can be made at the Nov Moz Solo Curry night, where i hear some of the suspects will be attending. I mandatory term of a full day in rusholme kwik save will be awarded to the thief!

Re: Star & Garter last night (FAO Bluenose)

Judging by the clues I've read here. Is the suspect rather reluctant to go to the bar when it is his/her round??????

I look forward to passing sentence.
