i recently got new cable channels. i was watching HBOplus, and during the station identification segment, they played a wierd version of 'how soon is now?'[no vocals]. does anyone know how this came about? did marr sell the song to HBO? i also heard the album version on a NISSAN car comercial.

Moz and Marr sold the Smiths catalog back in '92 or '93. Not coincidently, we've seen a huge increse in the profile of Smiths songs, particularly HSIN.

Well, there IS a section of the song (towards the end of the unedited version) that's without vocals; perhaps that's what they used for the station ID.

---------
They sold it to Warner Brothers or one of its subsidiaries. The amount I'm not sure of. Maybe 10-15 million.
