Default 20 years of Morrissey - The Essential Tracks

yet another, "crafted, creative and cunningly simple" post from me: (head is swollen)

I see that Billy Bragg has just released "Must I paint you a picture - The Essential Billy Bragg" which is apparently a two-CD package (but you get a 3rd if it's a special edition). It's to mark 20 years of his being in 'the biz', and apparently he had an on-line vote so that fans could have a say in what went on it. "Jeane" didn't make it.

Following a similar format I'm allowing myself 1 Smiths track, 1 Morrissey track and 1 'rarity'.

    Smiths: These Things Take Time
    Morrissey: Trouble Loves Me
'Rarity': Work is a Four Letter Word [Honest,I like that song]

Anyone care to torture themselves by doing the same?

    Default YOU TWAT!!

Look, that is all very nice. In fact, it is brilliant. But the fucking thing is all in your mind's eye. These make believe CD's don't exist, and you really have not offered to burn them and sell them to us. To make, a "best of" such as yours, one would need to by nearly 100 albums.

So why the fuck did you do this?

This is not a question like, "what are the best girl groups or women singers of all time, etc?"

This is just you having a go, making something that is only for you, sharing that with us in the cruelest of fashions, and asking us to fucking do the same.

Well, here is the deal you wanker. I made such a collection back when I was 19 and hopelessly in love with a girl. I made 3 tapes from CD's, a total of nearly 60 tracks from my CD collection. I typed out an index of artist, song, year, album, etc. I provided my own liner notes. I typed out the lyrics. And I presented it to her. She loved it!! But I was nine-fucking-teen!! You are much older and yet you continue to engage to such juvenile endeavors and then you don't even offer to sell them to us.

What, then, is your point, you selfish twat???

Well ignore it then. Don't want to? Don't do it? Simple. & If you don't see that I'm just dropping in that Billy Bragg, whose career launched at much the same time as Morrissey's, and seems to be much admired by Morrissey admirers has had another compilation released, then let me spell it out for you:

    Do you like Billy Bragg?
You do? >Then you may be interested to know that he has a new compilation out.

You don't? > Then kindly ignore this post and read another.

Ah! That's MUCH more interesting to read ain't it?

[Romeo, I think you're just taking the P.]

Some excellent choices on the Billy Bragg compilation. Shame 'Ontario, Quebec and Me' didn't make it, but I think all my other favourites are on there.

Anyway, here are my Smiths/Moz choices:

Smiths: Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
Morrissey: Now My Heart Is Full
'Rarity': Piccadilly Palare (with the extra verse)

    Mine are:

    Smiths - I Want The One I Can't Have
    Morrissey - Reader Meet Author
Rarity - Pretty Girls Make Graves (Troy Tate version)

Of course these could change within a matter of seconds.

Default Hey! I like WIAFLW too.

    1) There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
    2) Jack The Ripper
    3) I Keep Mine Hidden (Since I lost my copy of this, it's been playing non-stop in my head. Damn you, Apple Computers.)

But I must stress, as I always do, that my answers would be different five minutes from now. Je suis tellement capricieuse.

Also, if anyone cares, my three favorite songs of all time by The Smiths are TIALTNGO, The Boy With The Thorn In His Side, and Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before.

Smiths: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
    Morrissey: Speedway
Rarity: I'll cheat a bit and say "Sister I'm a Poet." Hey, it was never released on a "proper" album! I think it's perhaps the best song that Morrissey has ever recorded.

Default Ooh, love that song. It's endlessly quotable.

I always quote it when people give me a hard time for liking websites like Rotten and The Crime Library and for Unsolved Mysteries.

    Rarirty: mmmm?

Bizaarely I've just walked past Billy Bragg. Think he's signing his album in Leeds and there he was on Briggate- bold as brass.

I should have said something but I was a bit starstruck.
