Cocteau Twins (No Moz)

I was prowling through some old L.P's last night and stumbled across some albums by the Cocteau Twins.
The albums in question were :- Victorialand , Blue Bell Knoll and Treasure.

Now back in the days of The Smiths the Cocteaus were part of the staple indie diet.

Somewhere along the line I must have fallen out with them though as I can't remember buying any of their latter albums or following their career too closely.

So last night was like dipping a toes into the past and I have to say... it was wonderful:)

Sure their songs had stupid titles such as :-"Fluffy Tufts","Spooning Good Singing Gum" and "Aloysius".
Their covers were bleak and abstract and never listed the musicians involved or the song titles on the covers but after last night all is forgiven

The music was beautiful and Liz Fraser to this day remains unrivaled for the title of the best ever female vocalist in popular music history.Sorry Pollie.
That sentence sounds like an act of betrayal but it's true...

Perhaps I was feeling a little sentimental last night but the music invoked a stream of flooding memories to emerge, Some good...some not do good but that is life.

In many ways that trilogy of albums encapsulated my adolesence. The love, the fears, the feelings of not quite fitting in and the realisation that life was going to represent one giant roller coaster ride of emotions.

So this weekend, drag those L.P's down from the loft( they should never have been there in the first place).
Dust down your copy of "Treasure",close the curtails and sail away to the soaring sounds of The Cocteau Twins.
It will reawaken a love affair.

Those Cocteaus tunes are very beautiful aren't they? When I have those songs (I never could make out the words) in my head it feels like I've gone a little barmy - just noises and meaningless words that I've made fit.

I'll do just as you say Johnny, but I don't have the LPs, just cassettes and tunes on Peel's old Festive Fiftys from days of yore. I've heard those recordings so many times that I remember Peel introducing them as the 'Cockle Twins' because presumably some word processor had 'corrected' the name. That's why they wil always be the Cockle Twins for me. Have you heard the Cocteau's version of 'Frosty the Snowman'? Funniest Christmas record ever.

Tapes are cool Tingle. Tapes are our friends. I do remember the Christmas song. The lyrics are not supposed to mean anything. I think she views her voice as an instrument and uses it to create beautiful sounds.

They also recorded stuff as This Mortal Coil which I think was an amalgamation of various 4AD artists.
"Pearly Dew Drop Drops" was a song I remember. Sublime.

I only know "Wax and Wane" by the Cocteau Twins, but I really love it. I'll have to check out the songs you mentioned, Johnny.

Well if ever you feel the need,or indeed the urge, for one of my legendary compilation tapes Dumbles ..let me know. The pleasure and privilege would be mine

Saturday 16th August I will be house bound as I am painting my front door.
Is there no end to the excitement in my life ?

This will sound pervy, but for once I'm not meaning it in a pervy way. I just got finished painting my back door. I'm trying to discourage my cat from spraying against it, actually. Cats can be icky.
Anyway, good for you doing that. There's nothing sexier than a guy who does a bit of DIY. I sit and watch home improvement shows for hours. Which is kind of weird when you think about it. I mean, if some guy said to me, "Hey, baby, wanna come over and watch me install a toilet?" I probably wouldn't be into it at all. But put that same guy on television and have him talking to the camera as though he were talking to me and I'm all over it.

BTW - Do you want an audience while you paint your door?

Absolutely Dumbles Come and join me.If you want to stop your cat spraying your door then squeeze a little Jif lemon juice on the mat outside your door.
Cats hate the smell of it but it doesn't harm them in any way.

Yours,
Johnny (Cat friendly DIY expert)
