    Default Adam Ant

An interesting documentary on Channel 4 [makes a change from plans for a future war] last night about Adam Ant. It was really very sympathetic as it should be. It went a long way to explain his 'madness' (for madness read depression).

Couldn't help thinking all the way through of comparisons with Mozzer and The Smiths. Marco Pirroni (I thought that was a beer?) is a bit of a Johnny Marr character, and described Adam's 'manic' behaviour as , I think, 'Front-man-ism' and said that it isn't unusual for lead singers to behave like that - and there are a lot worse.

Boz was an 'Ant' wasn't he for the 80's revival shows a few years ago. Did anyone here see him on stage. Are there any photos of Boz Ant with make-up??

And, and, and, Adam Ant moved from the UK to LA, and had Diana Dors in one of his videos (Morrissey has her picture above his bed). I bet Morrissey and AA would get along.

Didn't the documentary say Adam Ant went mad before the tour?

Yes, well it seems he was depressed before and even during the height of his fame (refer to 'The Importance of Being Moz' for Morrissey's parallel experience and his comments on depression). What really sent AA over the edge seems to have been when a stalker imposed herself on him in Los Angles - yes, before Boz became a part-time Ant.

Oh, and Adam Ant's parents split up when he was aged what, 7 - 9 ? Sad. Seems it perhaps can all be traced back to that.

Oh, and Morrissey loved the word 'charming' didn't he?

I saw Boz play with Adam a few times during Adam's "Persuasion" tour ("91 or '92?). It wasn't the revival shows and there was no makeup involved. I was lucky enough to see Boz dressed in drag for the Halloween show years ago ;-)

It was interesting to see the programme was narrated by Justine from Elastica. Yummy.

Oh, do you like her, Johnny?
My likeness has been compared to hers in the past....I think it was the hair, to be honest.

Actually, I have just remembered, the vinyl formal of the first Elastica album came with a flexidisc of them covering an Adam and the Ants song. Can't tell you (without looking) which one, though.

I've got that one on vinyl but I didn't get a flexidisc thingy with it. Not that I can remember anyway. It's currently sitting with hundreds of its peers in a cold scottish attic. No-one has ever given me anything. (and can you blame them?)

You mean you didn't stomp back to the place of purchase to demand a replacement for the non-existant flexi?! I would have kicked up a helluva fuss!
Did you get the booklet with yours, Patrick? It details "the band so far" and the sleeves for the early singles.

Don't make me wince at the thought of neglected vinyl...I have taken mine with me everytime I've moved. Moving house with over 500 records strapped to your back is a sight to be seen, I can tell you.

    I honestly cannae remember, Bluebles.
I don't even think I was aware at the time that I should have got a flexidisc thingy and a booklet thingy with it.
Maybe the wee lassie in the shop took one look at me and thought, " Look at the state of him! He doesn't know his own name, never mind what day of the week it is", (and she'd be right).
So she probably nicked my extras. Bastard!!
