What was the last Morrissey/Smiths album you listened to?

Mine was Viva Hate. That is such a great overlooked classic. Obviously it had two big hits but the diverse songs like Angel, Angel and Margaret only serve to make it Morrissey's most experimental album to date. Can we have Stephen Street back now?

Mine was well, actually, not a studio release it was Morrissey concert performance in Berkely, CA 2002...

I'm listening to 'The Queen Is Dead' as we speak.

Mine was MEBY. To be honest I think "Viva Hate" is about the most popular Moz album.
I have to say mine is "Vauxhall" though.

If I was being overly critical I don't think "Viva Hate" has stood the test of time as well as "Vauxhall" and "Aresenal"...or even "Southpaw".

Street is a talented guy but for me the man who would really have moved Morrissey forward in the studio would have been the late, great Mick Ronson.A sad loss.

Nein! No Stephen Street, please! I say bring in Steve Lillywhite again and give us more of that warm, human and organic sound!
Last album listened to: Your Arsenal, on my way to work this morning.

Your Arsenal is certainly my favourite of all Morrissey's solo work but Viva Hate shows a side to him that was really interesting. He took quite a few risks with that album and most of them paid off. Just can't imagine him doing anything like Angel, Angel again. There's been a definite formula used since Vauxhall. I think a serious personnel shake up might be really good for him. Might also stop Mexico from ever being recorded, which can only be a good thing.

Why Steve Lillywhite? Vauxhall was good but the rest is very below par. Stephen Street really got a lot out of Morrissey's voice. I'd be interested to know why you think Lillywhite might be better.

As I stated: Steve Lillywhite has got a trademark warm and organic sound to the records he has produced that I really think suited Morrissey. Just listen to a single like Boxers, that's as much pure Morrissey as it is pure Steve Lillywhite.
My problem with Stephen Street lies mostly within the songs, wich I think often were too simple and unoriginal (with a few wonderful exceptions, of course). And also, Streets production I think is a bit to tame and lame for Morrissey 2003. He needs to come back with a bang, not with a puny whimper and a thin 80's-smelling production (as I suspect would be the result with Street in the producers chair).

Not sure I agree but fair enough. Also think you can't get much more "80's" than Steve Lillywhite. Maybe a new producer altogether would be a smart move. Raphael did a great job with The Strokes. Maybe he might be the guy for our Morrissey?

Kill Uncle.

Not the greatest of his IMHO, and before that it was the (sensational) Your Arsenal. Probably would still be that one, except it's on loan to somebone currently. It's so great... it makes me wonder if i'll get it back??

dunno, I have 6 cd's in my car

The Cult - love
REM - fables of....
Smiths - stop me JAP cdsingle
Morrissey - vauxhall
Morrissey - bona drag
The La's - The La's

I think the engine stopped while playing Vauxhall.

hmm I think I got stuck in the eighties.

Morrissey Live @ The Pond of Anaheim 9/13/02

My friend gave me a FLAWLESS bootleg copy her husband made from the show. We were all there so it is especially fun to re-live the experience. I listen to it at work all the time

Best!

Thank GAWD Morrissey didn't take the stage until nearly 8 PM (he was scheduled for 7:10 PM SHARP) cuz I was stuck in traffic until then... We got our WILL CALL tix right as the opening song "I Want The One I Can't Have" started and made our way to the 10 row on the floor and I was thinking "WOW! My friend who got me these tix is REALLY connected" but after one song security came over to us and the guy at WILL CALL was with them- he said sorry he made a mistake and then gave us our REAL tix and they escorted us to SECOND ROW FLOOR -CENTER- ****f******* !!!! There was ONE person in between us and Morrissey- and we towered over them... So my friend was even MORE connected than I thoght... My GAWD this week has been incredible... soooo anyways, yeah I guess there was a Moz show- he was FANTASTIC- and kudos to the dude who got onstage!! It was amzing feeling the love of 20,000 people strong screaming our devotion to the Mozza... After the AWESOME set it appeared as though half the crowd was leaving- but no- when the Jagueres took the stage the place was full again - and they ROCKED!! My GAWD those guys really are ROCK GODS... I was blown away. And then just when you thought the show was over a Mexican MARIACHI band came out with these BIG ASS SOMBREROS and the crowd went wild- it was HYSTERICAL to see and the music was great- I got in touch with my own Castilian-Spanish roots and discovered an incredible sound with these Latin bands... and then afterwards we headed backstage to meet Saul the lead singer of Jaguares and he was VERY nice and kissed my date on the cheek TWICE (all of her friends have WORSHIPPED that man for nearly 20 years) all in all a SPECTACULAR evening and INCREDIBLE week!!

cheers,

Jay

Hey Abrahán -- you wouldn't happen to have a cd cover & back for that show, would you? There isn't one over at Akiraware and I've had that disc burned for quite awhile now with no cover.

You're wrong to say that Viva Hate was overlooked. It was (and is) very popular.
Anyway, Girl Drinking told me a couple of months back to give Maladjusted more of a chance. So I did. And she was right. It's a glorious album.
For those of you murmuring "oh god, he's spouting shite again", I simply ask you to listen to it again. Go on. It won't hurt.
The answer to your question? Maladjusted. Well, I know all the others. I'm (belatedly) getting to know this one.
Cheers.

It's very good in patches but tails off toward the end. Vauxhall and Arsenal are certainly better. I last listened to My Early Burglary Years. Sheer class.
It's the solo Louder Than Bombs and always gets overlooked.

Mine was the Troy Tate demos from 1982.It is just superb,it`s so raw.But the version of Wonderful Woman is fantastic.
