The story is old but it goes on....

"This Is Not Your Country" , the thought-provoking semi-recent b-side when examined closely reveals a sympathetic attitude towards the nationalist population in Northern Ireland. A much more refreshing viewpoint than the blinkered bleatings of a lot of misguided USA idiots (who have no clue of the political climate in NI, just bland generalisations).

Hardly the view of a rabid, National Front sympathiser (who additionally, in case you didn't know, hate the Irish). Morrissey, conceived from Irish parents, is a perfect example of somebody who is proud of their nationality but is also aware of their roots and the different culture which surrounds them.

The reason I dig up this argument is because, a lot of ill-informed individuals are spouting the "Morrissey is a racist" lines, now that he is touring again. Tell them to listen to that song and it should shut them up.

A flag can be a mark of identity and a symbol of pride, whether ir be a union jack or a tricolour. Just ensure that it isn't used in an inappropriate location. Finsbury Park in London was a natural place to wave it. Pity about the PC-stunted journalists that (NME writers especially) who couldn't see this.

I'd like to point out that while the stage was being set for Morrissey @ Santa Barbara, various snippits of music were played on the PA...most notable was poetry read by Maya Angelou...did anybody catch that?

Well, don't generalize the USA merely by what you see on CNN. Remember, there are tons of Irish immigrants in America.
