Did anyone watch that Craig Cash thing last night?

It was on BBC2 at 9:30, but I can't remember the name of it. Was it 'closing Time'? Anyway, there was a scene where Craig Cash selects 'This Charming Man' on the jukebox and they all start singing it.

Doesn't seem so amusing now with all the latest gubbins with lawyers and stuff

But was it a good show? please give me your tuppence ha'penny worth of wisdom.. it's much apprctaied about my parts. Craig Cash new material in a Northern pub? Will a southern lad get that Northern humour?? Do they drink lager up there/?

Aye, it's good. Called 'Early Doors', Caroline Aherne was involved at first but left early doors (pun intended) when she threw a wobbly for one reason or another.
Like a pub-based Royle Family. If you liked that, you'll like this.

As Bluenose says, Craig Cash's first appearance - he walks in the pub, goes to the jukebox, inserts some coins, and then...then....THEN.... the unmistakeable intro to 'This Charming Man'. I started crying (don't tell anyone).
They sang along to the opening lines as well. Even the big fat barman. He was Anthony's bird's (Emma) dad in The Royle Family.

Don't know if it'll be repeated before next week's show, Ruff.
I reckon it'll do the same as The Royle Family and The Office. BBC2 for the first series until it catches on with the masses. Then onto the big BBC uno.

BTW, there did seem to be a variety in drinks being served. Have you heard of mild? Or is it all Courage and London Pride down the Seven Sisters Road?

My mate runs Greyhounds and a book down at Crayford and Catford.. If you ever wanted to meet the real boys talking in 'monkeys' and 'pony's'.. come on down !

They do age well those old episodes don't they.. I remember someone once blanked the peckham sign out with something like 'Rio De Janeiro'!! To make it more glam.

I am aware of mild. Used to drink bitter when I was 16.. light and bitter coz you got more for your pound! It's all those drinks and more.. You must come down for a shooter competition.. and I don't mean a trip to Hackney.

7 Sisters Road.. remember the Leighton Buzzards?? I have mentioned it before but i'm rather fond of that song 'saturday night beneath the plastic palm tree's'! Grim knoweth it!

Actually, Ruffian. Have you heard 'I'm In Love With Margaret Thatcher' by The Notsensibles? I had it on the other day and wondered how well known it was with the punk contingent.

I can't believe you know the Buzzards.. That track is written about a club called Charlie Browns in teh 7 Sisters Road.. and at the end of the night the theme to the 'Guns of Navarone' used to be played under the plastic palm trees, getting sick on rum and black..

Well, I have heard OF them, never heard them though knowingly.. but used to drink in this pub near white hart lane called the British Queen .. take it from me.. it was a lively pub.. skins punks and mohicans.. saw many people chased out over the tracks of the Liverpool st line!! But despite all the sick and beer, it had a great soundtrack.. hence my knowledge of the Upstarts, the Ants, Vapours etc etc etc.. You must have had some of those moments in your cosmo city of Birmingham.. (not that i have EVER been there to my shame)

reminiscing again,, thats all i ever do.. wish i could talk about this with my class tomorrow!

There was a pub in town called The Ship Ashore and on a Friday night, in the upstairs room( called The Crows Nest - geddit?) they played loads of ska and punk. This was about 10-12 years ago. It was the only place in the centre of Brum that had a DJ playing that stuff. Sadly, as with all good venues in Birmingham, it no longer exists as it was pulled down to make way for the redevelopment of the Bull Ring I believe that, where it used to stand, will soon become the home of 'Selfridges'. No justice.

I was going through a very major punk and new wave phase at the time, so I started tracking down records and stuff. One of my teachers lent me his record collection and that's when I decided that I wanted to build one up too, so go ahead and inspire your class!

It was one of those 'comical', almost cartoon, punky stuff. Like The Dickies and The Toy Dolls and Splodgenessabounds.

Hey Ruff. We passed The British Queen last august, after the spurs-celtic pre-season friendly.
The looks they gave us were anything but friendly, btw.
They obviously didn't know they were in the presence of a Punk Wars veteran, so I'll let them off. This time.

Oh my experience was like 20 years ago.. I was a young impressionable lad at that time when I think about it now.. The BQ is obviously still trading. Rudolphs and the Croner Pin now. Two very staunch Spurs pubs!

Punk war veterans get my respect. You must be fairly useful. I survived a Damned gig.. the support were 'Demented Are Go'.. my mate said you'd be better off getting your head kicked in out on the street than chance that mosh which was basically fighting without an issue with anyone!

Celtic? ahah... a two horse race league if ever I saw one!! How can that be interesting year in/year out.. no disrespect of course.. but there can#'t be many upsets every year.

No, not many upsets, but there are some. These other teams aren't particularly gifted, but they know Celtic and the Forces Of Darkness inside out.
They're also as fit as the proverbial butcher's dog and not at all shy when it comes to swinging the boot.
take motherwell this season. Rooted at the bottom and shite against the others. But they've beaten us AND the F.O.D. this season. Terry Butcher (for it is he) gets them all fired up.
Things like telling their grandchildren they were in a team that beat celtic the year they got to the final of the uefa cup. It works. Now and again.
However, by out-thinking, out-fighting, and OUTPLAYING Liverpool and Blackburn
on their own grounds this season, there can now surely be no doubters about our ability to mix it in england.
We swatted Blackburn (who did the double over arsenal, remember) aside like a pesky fly.
Then went to anfield and made owen, murphy, gerrard, heskey et al look EXACTLY like the overpaid, overrated players they are.
They were so dazed and confused, I had my doubts about them finding the players tunnel at the end.
Thankfully, though. they did. Such nice boys.

As for being fairly useful. Well, I am. But only in quizzes.
