Flushed by the fantastic contributions to my "overrated bands" thread here's another.

Top 3 female musicians / singers.

I usually change my mind the second I enter this but here goes....

1) Polly Harvey

2) Kim Deal

3) Manda Rin (Bis)

I can't pick 3. In no order:

Nico
Kim Gordon
PJ Harvey
Beth Gibbons
Sonya Madan
Isobel Campbell

1. Tori Amos
2. Sinead O'Connor
3. Siouxsie Sioux

I can't limit it to three, so here in no particlar order,

1) Harriet Wheeler, Docs and jeans. Instant indie creditibilty

2) Tracy Tracy, short and sexy

3) Julianne Regan, lovely

4) Sarah Cracknell, proving that 30 year olds do have a place in pop

5) The girls from Kenicke, hard drinking and good looking

6) The two girls from Saloon, art school coolness without the wank (ha ha)

7) Sophie Ellis Bexter, to think I missed out on a instore signing...

8 ) Rachel Goswell from Slowdive, palid and quiet...

Ha ha! I forgot about Sinead. She is as mad as a box of frogs but a great woman.
I watched a doucumentary on her recently. She is very talented and a very troubled.

Librarian you are such a perv !:). I was kind of thinking on musical abilities rather than looks.

Sarah Cracknell is amazing....You could also have ouit Wendy James in there;)

I think Sophie whatshername is dreadful though. Reminds me of Zippy from "Rainbow".

erm

I agree with Ms Polly Jean Harvey
also Joni Mitchell (despite the fact she's from my most hated place in the world CALIFORNIA)
I'll choose a third later on, there's so many.

Errrm, no, she's Canadian

> Re:

She did do a song called "California" from the "Blue" album which may have confused some.
She's a great choice though..............I also had a little soft spot for Claire Grogan from Altered Images but musically I think she was a tad talentless. Ahem....I was very young at the time.........

1) Debbie Harry

2) Sarah Cracknell

3) Jayne County (heh heh)

Nah, I'd say Tracy Tracy from The Primitives at number 3

To throw in my 2 cents:

1. Chrissie Hynde
2. Siouxsie Sioux
3. PJ Harvey
4. Exene Cervenka
5. Debbie Harry

1. Charlotte Hatherley From Ash (nothing so fine or sexy as a girl with a low slung guitar and knows how to use it)

2. Courtney Love (as a stage performer not neceassirly as a person.. I remember at Brixton when she pulled about 2 dozen girls out of the crowd to sit against the amps and drum riser.. joining her on stage in the ultimate display of female rock power.. And when she has a tutu on and advances to the front of stage, puts her foot on the monitor and blasts out 'Violet ' "..and the skies were made of amethyst.." Can that be beaten..?)

3. Agnetha Faltskog (or whatever her second name was)... Partly aesthetic, partly because I like her voice, and those that know me well know I have a weakness for Swedes!

4. Kim Deal - of course (repeating a them), Breeders was one of the gigs of last year.. what a surprise that was. And any friend of Frank Blacks is alright by me.

5. Nina Simone, Skin from Skunk Anansie and the girl that sang with Colourbox!

Pick the (billy) bones out of that lot!

Shed 7 were good on Sunday as well! Witter is a cheeky northern monkey for sure!

Oh come on, J. There's NO WAY you would have had wee Manda in there if we hadn't been speaking about her this weekend.
Come on then. Admit it. We're waiting.

It was a combination of both! May I also add Sarah Blackwood from Dubstar. I lovely woman singing kitchen sink dramas in high rises on council estates.

ah,I am a fool.I heard "California" and the "i'm coming home" lyric and put it together...she should have sung about "Canada" instead

Heh heh! Okay Pat. Numner 3 was a red herring brought on by supressed sexual fantasies....as you well know.

My number 3 would be the folk singer Melanie....so there

1/ YOKO ONO
2/ DEBBIE HARRY
3/ COURTNEY LOVE
4/ PJ HARVEY
5/ MADONNA
6/ SINEAD O'CONNOR
7/ DUSTY SPRINGFIELD
8/ PEACHES
9/ SIOUXSIE SIOUX
10/ PATTI SMITH

>she should have sung about "Canada" instead

Oh but she did, David:

"On the back of a cartoon coaster/In the blue TV screen light/I drew a map of Canada/Oh Canada/And I sketched your face on it twice" ("A Case Of You")
