Had a similar experience myself with The Smiths - knew a couple of tunes and a friend put on a tape he got from his brother - Louder Than Bombs, which I thought was a great mixtape, a little later I first heard How Soon Is Now, and like Billy I was like, "What the f***?!?!" Hooked for life.
