Morrissey signed at last! Will create own label on Sanctuary

This just in! After 5 years without a record deal Morrissey is finally signed.
Morrissey has been signed to Sanctuary records and will create his own label
there.

This deal was confimred with in the past 36 hours and after the first Royal
Albert Hall gig. Not so conicidently, none other than Mr. Geoff Travis was in
attendance at the aftershow party. I suppose he was duly impressed by Mozzer's
stellar show and arranged for the second night to be captured on video.

The video which was paid for by Sanctuary, will be released as a DVD supposedly
in time for Christmas.

*Special thanks to you know who for the inside scoop*

wait, i remember the FIRST time they announced he was signed to Sanctuary.

holy shit. i hope this is 100% a DVD for xmas! what a great year to be a mozzite.

doesn't make any sense

What? Geoff Travis is nothing to do with Sanctuary, his label is Rough Trade. Sanctuary used to distribute RT in the U.S., but now RT has a U.S. branch as well.

"and arranged for the second night to be captured on video."

They filmed both night anyway!

Re: Methinks 'Rough Trade' is now an imprint of Sanctuary

I don't know that Geoff T still has control of Rough Trade records does he?

Nope, Geoff Travis owns Rough Trade, and it's independent

It's possible that Sanctuary is still distributing the U.S. releases for them as the U.S. branch of Rough Trade may not be entirely operational yet.
But Geoff definitely owns RT and it's not part of Sanctuary.

From the RT website:

Rough Trade Records was founded by Geoff Travis and born from the successful independent London record store in 1978 with the release of Metal Urbain's "Paris Maquis" single and fast established itself as one of the great independent labels with a reputation of eclectic taste and artist-first philosophy. Over the next 20 years, the label released records by Stiff Little Fingers, Young Marble Giants, The Slits, Cabaret Voltaire, The Raincoats, The Pop Group, The Fall, Wire, Pere Ubu, The Fall, Aztec Camera, Scritti Politti, The Woodentops, The Go-Betweens, The Smiths, Robert Wyatt, Galaxie 500, The Sundays, James, Jonathan Richman to name but a handful. After a temporary shift in ownership for most of the late 90's, Rough Trade Records is again in Travis' hands and is as eclectic and dependable as ever for the best in exciting, new music. Fast approaching it's 25th anniversary, Rough Trade again stands as one of the world's best independent labels.

I wonder what he's gonna call his label??????????

And does this mean it's like a Trent Reznor/Nothing Records deal? Where he's gonna sign other bands too? And single-handedly save pop music?
