As a distraction from the excitement about tomorrow's gig, can anyone tell me do you think that 'Billy Budd' is really about Billy Mackenzie? I know there is a story/play 'Billy Budd' but I don't think that the song is at all related to it.

I think the lines about 'since I took up with you' and 'now it's 12 years on' and 'I took my job application into town' hark back to the 'William it was really nothing' and 'Heaven knows....' singles.

What is it about? It's a cracking tune anyway.

Supposedly it's yet another song about Johnny Marr. 12 years before he wrote it was when they met, and also Herman Melville wrote the book "Billy Budd" and a story called "John Marr".

    Thanks. That's really rather clever.

I watched the film Billy Budd.. and it must be drawn from that.. and not the Napoleonic iconagrhy of course.. but the innocence and youth being betrayed by something far more sinister. There's heroism in there as well, and dare I say maybe Morrissey feel in love with the nagelic blonde looks of Terence Stamp.

Morrissey if you read this.. see you in the Catherine Wheel later alright?? for a beer.

Ummm, yes, I'll be there. Have a light ale in the fridge for me. I'd also like an assortment of crisps and nuts available to the value of £7.50 (no smokey bacon , beef or chicken flavours).

Oh and whatever the boys in the band are having, because as with any contract I sign, they come with me.
