2014 baseball thread

Its just a hunch of mine. Lol, it would make sense though. However, I never read anything about this being the case.

Wow, I didn't know Rickey played with the Dodgers. That pic shocked me! Rickey is one of the true characters of the game! He's right up there with the great Yogi Berra. I'm not sure what team he was with at the time, but one time when he was boarding the team bus, he sat up front. Someone blurted out, "Hey Rickey, you got tenure, you can sit in the back of the bus." Rickey got up and said, "Ten year? No man, I got twenty year!" Then Rickey started walking and sat in the very back of the bus. ( Source, "The Jim Rome Show" on Sports radio.)

Rickey Henderson, one of the all-time greats.
often the Dodgers have been desperate for a lead off man, he fit the bill after the Dodgers idiotically traded away Dave Roberts*
as for Jime Rome

:lbf:

Spiders are probably the scariest mascot ever.
agreed

now back to the now, my boys in blue are 10 & 6 with most of that coming on the road(11/16)
so now looking forward to a nice homestand to really see what is what :guitar:

My sister and I are going to catch Wednesday's game against the Phils. I'll be in a Dodger shirt with a Phillies hat...until it's time to walk back to the car then I'll switch to my Dodger hat. (I'm not stupid :p)

Because she's bad luck duh ! I kid I kid.

I was born there. You know that moment when you get to your level and you walk out and see the diamond for the first time? THat happened in Philadelphia. My dad taught me the basics there as a 5-year-old. He's not so sentimental about it, his theory is root for the team that's closest to where you charge your cell phone. My sister is obsessive over the Phillies because she learned baseball there too. So I root for both. I never really care who wins, I'm just a fan of baseball. I like the Angels too. Still haven't seen a Giants game, that view of the bay looks incredible.

EDIT: I start to care who wins in the post season.

I remember going to the old municipal stadium in Arlington to watch the rangers play when I was a wee lad. Going to the ballpark is always fun. I'm not a rangers fan but I always hope they do well.

Seven zip tonight. I gotta say there was a tense moment when the metro pulled into Union Station and there was an blue army of sad faces holding their fleece blankets while I randomly wore a RED sweatshirt tonight. :p

another game thrown away by shitting fielding and unearned runs
so far 23 errors in 21 games, to be honest, its amazing they are 12-9 :o
the erratic bullpen has been able to get them out of many of those self made jams, but not tonight :(
I am now re-thinking the whole "World Series" thing
last NLCS, the 3 errors against the Cards in 6 games cost the Dodgers greatly and this team?
well, looks like they could average an error a game
thats real shit, they should be ashamed of themselves, World Series my ass
this team will be lucky to make it to the post season

take some of that back, nice win today boys :thumb: no errors, strong pitching all the way through, 5 runs scored :)
that will get it done, well, now I am off to work with my step a little lighter since they won today

Greinke was epic. He went out crabby because he gave up a homer on the last pitch (he refused to shake Don's hand in the dugout he was so pissed) but the KKKKKKKKKKK board was amazing.

We had a view of Tommy Lasorda's box last night, I'm squeezing him.

Poor guy had people coming up to him all night asking for autographs and photos. He had a lady assigned to waving them off but he posed for every one. The guy could have his own luxury box tucked away above the Loge, but you could tell he wanted to be next to the dugout, he'd pop his head in there and chat with the players and coaches.

poor Tommy, give the guy a break and let him watch the game
I always wonder at the type of person that thinks they can just come up to a total stranger and ask for something
just because that person is famous

Last rangers game I went to I sat a section over from George W.Bush and Nolan Ryan. I think people knew better than to approach on account of secret service. Still he seemed friendly with the people around him.

GW, hate that guy, sorry, I know its not right to hate the mentally challenged
but when it comes to him, I just can't help it :o
as to Nolan Ryan, great pitcher for sure :thumb: but his take down of
Nolan_Ryan.jpg

Robin Ventura, 20 years younger than him, after he charged the mound was legendary :D
anyways, so my Dodgers are 17 & 12, which is OK, could be worse given how many close ones the bullpen has been involved in
though many would not be so close if this years Dodgers' were not arguably the most terrible defensive team of the 21st century
next up, the once shitty, then great, then shitty, then great, then shitty again "Marlins"* they seem to be on an upswing again, I'd just like to see Becket pitch well and Ryu get a win out of this series
because the Kersh is back next week and all shall return to cookies and cream :p

*=the owner of the Marlins has a "system" 1st he builds up a good team, then after they do well, he dismantles it piece by piece
only to start over again a few years later

weird to think this, but last year's team may have been better
way to go Dodgers, spend a bunch of $(much of it on a bullpen that gave up 11 runs in this game*)
when added to being the shittiest fielding team in all of MLB
I am feeling more OK about not having to watch any of this emerging train wreck of a team in person :o
so there is that going for this season, if nothing else

*=yes, I know the Kersh got pounded, but that is going to happen every once in a while, the more telling thing was the bullpen's inability to keep it close even after the Dodgers closed the gap :(
this combined with an extraordinary number of unearned runs so far this season and well, its about time to write off this season and the colossal waste of $ spent in clearly all the wrong ways :tears:

Banned in only 32 posts. Impressive. I've unfortunately had to put skirts in the back seat since I've been away from home for work for a couple weeks and will be for a couple more. I did however get to go to bourbon street and a casino for the first time. I miss my baseball though.

Re: this thread flame war free, OK? thanks

28 & 24, that won't get it done, but at least they have not totally collapsed, yet, like I feared they would
& Becket getting a no hitter was nice :)
too bad though that A.J. Ellis sprained his ankle celebrating it
then today, former Giant, Brian Wilson did his best to help keep the Dodgers from gaining some ground on them
luckily he was pulled before his shit for pitching could do too much damage
the problems remain though, the most annoying of which right now is putting Kemp in left field, what the Dodgers need to do is move him to the "AL"
just agree to pay a ton of his salary and some team over there will take him, hopefully
I'd be happy with just one good, consistent middle reliever in return :thumb:
anyways, 6 games left on this homestand, if they can win 4 or 5 of them, then just maybe they can stay in this race :guitar:
