NBA thread

OK, so taking a look, they gave my Bruins a #4 seed, but did not let them stay out West*, which is a shame
I'd rather have been a #6 and stayed close to home, but the Tourney does not usually reward teams who got bounced in the 1st round the year before like we did :o
Anyways, looking at the match ups, we should trounce Tulsa in the 1st round, then face VCU in the 2nd, I don't know much about them, but my guess is were better.
After that would likely be #1 Florida  oh well, there is always next year, still, I'll be rooting for Bruins as long as they play
as for who I want to win other than them? I've been a big fan for years of
Tom_Izzo_at_Midnight_madness.jpg

Michigan State, thats their coach Tom Izzo dressed up like a Spartan :D
they're only a #4 seed as well, but I think UVA is an over-rated #1 seed
what about you? is your school in the tourney as well? :)

ps: link to page took bracket from
http://www.sbnation.com/college-basketball/2014/3/16/5498142/2014-ncaa-tournament-printable-bracket-march-madness

*=actually it seems the first 2 rounds will be played in San Diego, which is close to L.A. lucky break for my Bruins
though not as good as playing Anaheim for the middle rounds of the tourney

so yeah, we lost  we missed most of our 3s and they made most of theirs, also, they do seem to get away with a lot of contact on defense
still, I am trying not to be bitter, its just that this is the 4th time in 8 years that its Florida who bounces us from the tourney
moving on now though, not back to the NBA, no, no, the Lakers are playing for "the lottery" so time for a new thread :thumb:

OK, the horror that was this Lakers season is finally over, 27 & 55, their worst team ever. :(
I am going to skip following any of the NBA post season.
The only days that matter now are May 20th, when the Lakers will know what their 6th worst record in the league buys them draft pick wise
and then actual draft day, June 26th, it is my sincere hope that the Lakers are able to pick:

Kyle Anderson of my alma mater :thumb:
some of the sting of his leaving UCLA early would be taken away if became a Laker afterwards :o

anyways, she recorded him saying racist things on the phone to her, her timing could not be more perfect
just a reminder why I always root against the Clips, and will rejoice in Donald Sterling's death
fingers crossed, hoping it happens soon, but til then, I shall root for anybody playing them :thumb:

I remember quite awhile back that you blasted Donald Sterling in this thread, Robby. Then I threw in some choice words. He's been behaving terribly for a long time, and now he's reached a new low. I hope the NBA can legally kick him out of the league. I was proud of LeBron for his forceful statement in saying, "There is no place for Donald Sterling in our league. He's got to go." I've been critical of LeBron in the past for not speaking up about important issues, especially in regards to the Association. He seemed to be a prized pupil in the "Tiger Woods School of Not Saying Anything That Is Remotely Relevant." (Yeah, I saw Tiger's so-called apology, at his pathetic press conference a few years back, where he stumbled around trying to say something relevant. He failed.) Lebron changed all of this last year, with his strident statements regarding the shooting of Trayvon Martin. He sided with Trayvon's family and supporters in this issue. I can understand the arguments on both sides of the issue in that case. It's a difficult case. I was just proud of LeBron for finally taking a stand, on something. Yesterday, he really took a stand when he proclaimed that Donald Sterling should be booted out of the league. Good for LeBron. Good for the most recognizable face in the NBA immediately taking a bold position, in regards to Donald Sterling's pathetic and despicable nonsense. I also commend the owners of the Spurs and the Heat for immediately condemning Sterling's awful comments. LeBron was right, the bastard needs to go.

I'm not usually a proponent of someone secretly recording private conversations, and then unleashing them for all to see. However, when someone crosses the line in the way Sterling's comments did, all bets are off the table. I can honestly say, she did the right thing. She did the right thing.

Re: go Warriors!

That's cool you kept the thread going during the NCAA basketball tourney, Robby. I just didn't feel like posting much during those weeks. I read your comments on UCLA, etc. The Bruins did pretty good in the tourney. I watched quite a bit of it. I'm glad UConn beat Calipari and Kentucky. I can't stand Calipari. Why do all of these kids want to go play for this guy? Today's college basketball coaches are mostly high-strung, arrogant, type A personality carbon copies of each other. There is no way I'd play for Calipari, Pitino, Bill Self, the super annoying Tom Izzo, Coach K (when I see him on the sidelines, I literally want to punch him in the face), Tom Creen, etc. There are very few characters left in the college basketball coaching circles.

Remember the glory days of Rollie Massimino, Jimmy Valvano, Lou Carnesecca, Jerry Tarkanian (even with all the scandals), John Chaney of Temple, Jud Heathcoate, Houston's Guy Lewis (who is still alive at the age of 92), John Thompson (he always had the towel over his shoulder), Gene Keady of Purdue, Eddie Sutton, Bobby Cremins (with his white hair), Norm Stewart of Missouri, and an assortment of other interesting characters. Nowadays, none of these gentlemen would probably even get an interview for a head coaching vacancy at a major university. Why? Because they don't present the Calipari-Pitino cookie cutter image of today's smug college head basketball coach. They don't possess the essential criteria of the over-confident, immaculately dressed con-man, who is willing to do anything to snare the recruit. Thank God, at least Jim Boeheim, Roy Williams, and Larry Brown (SMU) remain. None of them are classic characters, but they are all distinguished gentlemen. They are all echoes. Echoes of college basketball's glorious past.

They warmed up with their uniforms inside out and dumped their jackets on the floor tonight. Not sure if they played the game that way.

I'm very, very proud of the Clippers players for making this provocative statement. Seeing this picture, brings tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting this, CG.

The Clippers have a roster full of players who are well respected and honorable men. Blake Griffin is regarded as one of the nicest, and most humble superstars, in all of professional sports. The same can be said for Chris Paul, who by the way, is the president of the National Basketball Player's Association. (Also, oddly enough, Chris Paul owns a franchise in the Professional Bowler's Association.) Fourteen year NBA vet, Jamal "Money Man" Crawford, is ace on the court and in his community. Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and "Money Man" Crawford are the team leaders.

-I have a lot more to add to this, but I need to go for a walk and make a phone call. To be continued....

They played the game dressed normally. The nba wouldn't have allowed them to play the game if they hadn't. This shit bag had already been sued for not allowing blacks and hispanics to live in a couple buildings he owned. Robbie, the women I believe is actually an escort or something. She's actually paid to go out with him and stuff.

Re: go Warriors!

The Conspiracy Theorist in me wonders if the racist leak wasn't a calculated move to "force" Sterling to sell one of the most lucrative franchises in the NBA and the new buyer to pay premium price to "save" the players from the racist owner enabling Sterling to actually capitalize immensely on his racism.

Re: this bald guy got it right

Another class act from the NBA.....

Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal is under fire for mocking a disabled fan’s selfie.

The retired athlete posted a picture on Instagram of his own contorted face next to Jahmel Binion’s selfie.

FOX 2 reports the post, captioned “Smile today,” earned more than 14,000 likes, with former University of Michigan athlete Trey Burke and rapper Waka Flocka Flame joining in on the teasing.

The post has been deleted. But for Binion, the damage has been done.

In a now-deleted post on Instagram, Shaquille O’Neal made fun of a disabled fan’s selfie.

With missing teeth and abnormal hair growth caused by the rare disorder ectodermal dysplasia, the Michigan man is used to getting bullied — but Shaq’s mockery was too much to bear.

He considered Shaq his basketball idol and respected the former high-profile athlete’s charitable works and advocacy for disadvantaged children in America.

“I’ve been getting teased since I was yay (sic) tall. People laugh at me, stare at me,” Binion said. “I was kind of hurt because I’ve always looked up to him. I’ve watched Shaq play basketball since I was (inaudible), so I was like, why are you making fun of me? He is supposed to be this role model.”

Despite the abuse, Binion has a positive outlook. He said the cruel taunts have inspired him to start an anti-bullying campaign called Hug Don’t Judge.

“I can’t let it get to me, because then I get hurt and depressed,” he said.

O’Neal did not respond to Fox’s request for comment.

Tom Izzo gets results, I'll say that for him. He's led Michigan St. to five or six Final Fours, two National Championship games, and one National Championship (2000.) With that written, I just don't care for the guy. So for Tom Izzo........

Shaq can definitely disappoint at times. He needs to apologize, as does Trey Burke. I'm a Trey Burke fan and was surprised to read that he was involved in something like this. I'm glad to see the young man is starting an anti-bullying campaign, and trying to turn a negative into a positive. I know that I judge others quite a bit too. In this very post I called Tom Izzo an, "Oh Phoney."
