What songs were playing on the radio when you were a child or coming of age?

These were popular tunes when I was a preteen in Ohio...

Re: Date Yourself!

First pop song I remember driving with the family on a road trip to Granbury, Texas. Eerie video. Awesome.

Re: Date Yourself!

Haha! Can't believe you've never heard that. It must have never travelled over the pond but if you were somewhere that played a slow song at the end of the night here then this was probably it.

I'm pretty sure my first dance with a girl was to this

My first dance that led to anything better was to this...

A few from a span of years…..some of these songs make me want to shoot myself!

However, I love this one…..was so so huge in 1983.

"It's Still Rock & Roll to Me" by Billy Joel

"I Love You" by Climax Blues Band- Absolutely beautiful.

"Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes- I really loved this song. Still do.

"Shining Star" by The Manhattans- This song was everywhere on the radio.

"Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes

"Right Down the Line" by Gerry Rafferty- Absolutely beautiful.

"Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty- My family & I were living in Baker, Oregon when this song came out. (It's now Baker City, Oregon.) We lived a block from a street called Baker Street. Great song.

I'm not sure how I feel about Rodney on the Rock's haircut, just spotted in LA. :p THat dates me a tad, I love that man's voice. He did a show one night or day (I think night) that introduced me to Echo & the Bunnymen.

it was a little different when I finally danced with a girl in junior high to

I was really young when this beautiful song was released. I didn't understand the lyrics at the time and I barely care about them now. I love the harmony of this song, the vocals and the music. So peaceful.

"Sharing the Night Together" by Dr.Hook

-Thanks Reality for posting so many great threads. Yeah, you've posted some awful ones (Food Porn, Worst Hair), and I've posted some even worse ones. Thanks!

Re: Date Yourself!

The first pop song I remember hearing on the radio:

Aw, f*** yeah... I never heard this on the radio, but it was seemingly the only CD my parents owned, since it's all they ever played... My mom listened to a lot of Petra [EDIT: and Dr. Hook] tapes in the car, too:

Petra is some incredibly cheesy AOR Jesus music, and I frankly loved it as a young 'un... Hard not to appreciate the cheese factor even now. Those are some righteous mullets (no pun intended)!

I'm pretty sure the first song I clearly remember hearing on the radio that really jumped out to me was "The Sign" by Ace of Base... I'm still a baby.
