Margaret Thatcher dies at 87

Margaret Thatcher dead

Subject of the Viva Hate song " Margaret on the Guillotine" has died today
British Prime Minister from 1979 until 1990 (?)
Morrissey also infamously wished her demise in the Brighton bombing of 1984
Wonder if we'll get comment on True to You?

Bet Mozzer is clapping his hands.
BBC news covering it now, dragging up old issues, probably not the best idea.
Wish that bastard David Cameron would pipe down!

It's hardly the fault of the NUM that you're not careful enough with candles!

Perhaps, but it was their fault that they held the country to ransom by turning off the lights, for, if memory serves, a 25% pay claim. I was six at the time, but I suppose one more death in the name of international socialism wouldn't have made a great deal of difference, as so many millions had gone before.

Now, I fully realise we are deep into middle-class, sixth-form, comfortably off pseudo-socialist territory here, but let me give you a simple fact. You cannot have a democratic country run by Kremlin backed, corrupt, elected-by-block-vote union leaders. That was where we were in 1979, and the populace were sick of it. I realise that isn't a popular view here, any more than it is over on The Guardian website, but it seems to me to be a very basic tenet of democracy that the electorate decide who runs the place.

Tony Benn, a man I respect immensely and have met several times, often tells us the three questions we should ask of those who seek to stand for elected office. "Who are you?", "What do you stand for?" and "How do we get rid of you?"

With men like Scargill in charge the last question would have been irrelevant.

Ever heard of a flashlight? Or did they take your batteries too?

Yeah, Barleyfart! and to think we came so close to not having to read your dumbass comments.

This thread is so far beyond your level of intellect, my dear, I fear you might embarrass yourself. Stick to "Morrissey, yay!", which I think is a pretty neat précis of the most insightful comment you've yet made here.

Hey! ya Yank wanker, this is a big day for us Brits so just piss off, ok? Have a look at the thread title...it's a clue to the topic for discussion..about time you found a new Hollywood diva for your profile, that one's tired and not twisted enough. And like all your troll attempts, very, very obvious.."challenging behaviour with difficult to meet face time attention whore needs"...try and find something remotely fresh, or go feltch Skylarker again.

How sad of a nation you must be.

It's such a bizarre and slightly pathetic contradiction (and seems only to apply to So_Low among online fansites) that disempowered haters like Viva should repeatedly come to a fansite to attack its subject and other fans. Even more tragic of course what DavidT has allowed to happen to this site and that he seems unable to distinguish between his "anti-censorship, free speech" position and infantile trolling.

So essentially, you're saying everyone's rights end where your feelings begin...correct?

So you want to be a prick?

That would be like me asking if you want to be an idiot...

it's pretty obvious to all that your knowledge of british culture doesn't extend much beyond staring at Morrissey's arse on a cd cover all day. isn't there some other thread where you can 'do what you want' and at least your fellow mental patients will dignify you with a response? isn't there wiki stuff to press on with? we're busy, this is a big day, you won't crash this thread even if you post 1000 gifs. My metaphorical prison cell door remains open should you fancy another bout in The Pigsty...but not here. The topic is Thatcher's Death, not your lack of self-esteem, if you post further on this thread, try and be remotely on topic. for once.

The top of my foot is more knowledgeable about "British culture" and the history of politics in that country than you could ever hope to be. Waste somebody else's time copying and pasting events you weren't even aware existed until this mornings obituaries. Meanwhile, I will continue to post whatever I feel like and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Deal with it.

Ever heard of a flashlight?

We don't have "flashlights" here. Don't you know nuffink?

Please impress us further with your knowledge of Britain in the 70s. Let's start with the basics. Where is Britain?

As someone who couldn't find her own arse with both hands and a "torch" that should keep you occupied for a while.

Oh yes, this thread is just spewing intellect.

Can't say I feel much about this, if I'm honest. Certainly not the way I thought I would when I was 16. Another little part of the past is gone, and as I get older I'm more and more aware of the march of time.

I feel the same way, if it was Cameron or one of his Eton Rifles I might celebrate, instead it's just some senile old woman that gave us a bumming many years ago.

Are you guys going to be happy when the Queen dies? It's not like Chuck is going to be much of an improvement but it's rather symbolic to have the stuffy bag kick it if she represents cold oppression veiled in faux pomp and circumstance like has been expressed here.

I know of someone who will might be happy when the queen finally kicks it.

STATEMENT FROM MORRISSEY, mirror.co.uk

"Thatcher is remembered as The Iron Lady only because she possessed completely negative traits such as persistent stubbornness and a determined refusal to listen to others.

"Every move she made was charged by negativity; she destroyed the British manufacturing industry, she hated the miners, she hated the arts, she hated the Irish Freedom Fighters and allowed them to die, she hated the English poor and did nothing at all to help them, she hated Greenpeace and environmental protectionists, she was the only European political leader who opposed a ban on the Ivory Trade, she had no wit and no warmth and even her own Cabinet booted her out."

"She gave the order to blow up The Belgrano even though it was outside of the Malvinas Exclusion Zone - and was sailing AWAY from the islands.

"When the young Argentinean boys aboard The Belgrano had suffered a most appalling and unjust death, Thatcher gave the thumbs up sign for the British press. Iron? No. Barbaric? Yes.

"She hated feminists even though it was largely due to the progression of the women's movement that the British people allowed themselves to accept that a Prime Minister could actually be female. But because of Thatcher, there will never again be another woman in power in British politics, and rather than opening that particular door for other women, she closed it.

"Thatcher will only be fondly remembered by sentimentalists who did not suffer under her leadership, but the majority of British working people have forgotten her already, and the people of Argentina will be celebrating her death.

"As a matter of recorded fact, Thatcher was a terror without an atom of humanity,"

I thought this thread would be more about Annette Funicello at this point. Boy was I wrong.

Dayuuum!

He might actually put out those 3 albums, his autobiography, maybe a film or 2...marry and settle down. Sheesh! The opportunities are endless!

Awright. But apart from that, have you had a good day? :)
