Default Peoples who are close to you and who don't dig the Smiths/Moz

Oh, before new workweek starts in 30 minutes or so...

Does anybody want to share his/her experience about "Peoples who are close to you and who don't dig (or don't even care to listen) the Smiths/Moz". You are dragging your (sister/brother/girlfriend/grandma/lesbian lover, whomever you choose) to see/listen to Mozzer... and they are just not getting it, Moz's immortal art just DOES NOT THINK INTO some overfed smiley crackers (your average Amerikan(s)), who, UNFORTUNATELY, just happen to be peoples you love and care about the most!

    Here is my own experience:

    Boyfriend.

My partner is the nicest and kindest all around human one could imagine... sort of a guy who would always give a dollar bill to a homeless bum and to rave about social issues like mistreatment of Mexican workers or environment or Bush Jr administration corporate welfare, thievery and misdeeds or racism or gay issues etc... He is also cold stone indifferent to Mozzer. Before we started living together, I bought Carlos Bona Drag CD... He listened it once with me in a car... Yet Thalia, Madonna and Mana CDs are always on his car CD player! At least, he, when in the right mood, listens to some Caifanes/Jaguares! But Moz is just flying over his head...

But he is a good soldier in a relationship perpetual battle, he wants to please me so... he will go with me to attend Morrissey show at San Diego! What a feat... It took me some pleading...
("Oh, tickets are expensive nowadays.... As well as your compulsive shopping, David, and I don't want to even start about your ill-conceived trip to Las Vegas this May... Why not to start saving finally and put a downpayment to that condo in Ocean Beach I crave for a long time? Fuck, with your spending habits, why not just to fill Chapter 11???") When El Tri was playing a year ago at San Diego Sports Arena, we just bought 2 ticks and went with me, and I'm telling you, El Tri is one of the cheesiest, corniest r'and'r ever existed... not that Mr. Lara does not have his own "I fucked your mom, and I will do you, babe behind the stage... I'm a pleasant moron, I'm here to entertain you... " Spinal Tap-esque charm... So I reminded Carlos of his good merry times at El Tri and me, tagging reluctantly along, so he just gave me a green light to buy him a ticket... (After I threatened to go to Moz-show with my LA Israeli ex...) Will he (Carlos) ever convert to Saint Morrissey Church of Bona Drag? He is a gay man after all, right?

    Sister

I sent my younger sister in East Coast The Best of Smiths and Viva Hate about a year ago... Conversation with her couple of days ago...

Me: Did you got those 2 CDs?
Sis: this gay guy with woman voice you told me about... Yeah
Me: Did you listened to them
    Sis: Oh, sure...
    Me: What's your fave song...
    Sis: Duh..
Me: Like you didn't listen to them
Sis: No, I did, like, I dig this shit, I loaded a couple of Corn and Aerosmiths songs the other day at my work from Internet, and they are so awesome...
Me: Oh, that's ok, you don't have to torture yourselves... if you don't like it, don't listen...
Sis: No, I like it... But I like more shit like Mana or Aerosmiths, it rocks...
Me: Sure. Any good movies lately?
Sis: Me and my hubby went to see that Van Diesel XXX movie... It was cool... And Adam Sandler movie was so funny, about the guy who got an inheritance...
Me: I'm fainting, sorry... (Me: Fainting...)

BTW, my sister was very cool about my sexual orientation and she is comfortable hanging out with gays or artsy peoples... It just she is not an art person...

OK, now does anybody want to tell THEIR stories???

    Great story!
My boyfriend hates Morrissey, and if anyone is driving down the GSP around exit 105 you might be find my "Meat is Murder" and "Rank" CD's on the side of the road. He did say Johnny Marr is very talented, and one of the most natural gifted guitarists and he wouldn't mind seeing him play live. He had some very unkind things to say about Boz and Alain(especially Alain). I told him that people fight over who is better Johnny or Alain and he couldn't believe there are actually people prefer Alain over Johnny, or Moz solo over The Smiths.

    good afternoon all
I love Morrissey. he is near and dear to my heart (and forever will be)
i have his likeness displayed prominently all over the crib.

Our neighbor (who is mildly burnt out on pot and oxycontin) likes to come over and mooch, i mean, hang out with us right.
so one day we're going to the b-ball game (courtesey of well, me)
I say: "oh i'm gonna see morrissey in vegas"
    he says: "nice"
    I say: "he's playing two shows-totally jazzed"
he says: "GOD TORTURE - MORRISSEY TWO NITES IN A ROW"
I then hang my head in disgust and walk 10 paces ahead
i don't know what's wrong with people? most that know me don't get morrissey
what someone doesn't understand, scares them!

Don't know what to tell you, but I find I fall for guys who are very different from me in a lot of ways (like in music or TV/movie taste or ethical standards!), but similar in other ways (like same hobbies, etc.) When the relationship is doomed you get the cop out line, "We're too different." Whatever. However, I do know that trying to make friends who like the same music as you is pointless as well. About 10 years ago I hopped on the internet to find Morrissey fan friends because I wanted to know people who shared my love of Morrissey. Pointless. Most Morrissey fans are hostile assholes. Anyway, a condo in OB? That's awesome, what do you do for a living? I want to put a downpayment on a beach cottage, but unfortunately I've got $0 in the bank. Now I have to wait for an inheritance or a reward or just some kind of good fortune!
