Wonderful oper air venue this evening for the Morrissey gig in Roma. More than 3000 fans from all over Italy and Europe attended the gig. There was no standing area but as soon the door open, the security understand they can do nothing: all the people is standing near the stage, which is high only half a meter with no barreers. After Kristeen Young, at 10 p.m. comes on stage our hero starting with Shoplifters of the World Unite, sang by the audience. Setlist included more or less the songs of Antwerp gig, even if When Last I spoke to Carol wasn't played and ended with How Soon is now? Enthusiastic crowd, about 20 people invaded the stage in different moments, as tradition wants. Nice gig, even if - as old Moz fan - I would include some songs instead of others, but - you know - it's a matter of taste. Ready for Genoa, tomorrow... I am not sure but talking to the audience he said that in Genova there's the grave of Oscar Wilde wife but he will not go because he (Oscar) doesn't know who is Morrissey (pointing to the banner on the backside of the stage).

Also, about second link, this is the translation of the article written by livecity.it:

"Who is Morrissey?", Questions the image of Oscar Wilde projected behind the stage. The answer is simple: Morrissey tonight is the king of Rome, capable from its 53 years of wonderful charm and unleash Cavea Auditorium in Rome, in the first of five concerts around Italy. With an abysmal delay (one hour, the time to let the public queue outside the Music Park) the former Smiths singer takes the stage with the charm of a Cary Grant and the clothing of other rockers time (boots, jeans and shirt): "Mama Roma, Mama Roma, Mama Roma," are the first words thrown at the audience, a true declaration of love for the city where for many years, Morrissey has chosen to live far away the greyness and the agonies of his Manchester.
"Shopfilters of the world united" (The Smiths) opens the show, the applause and the screams of girls under the stage, whose incursions during the evening will be not easy to defend. The warm voice of Morrissey wraps the auditorium of a radiant and a little rock 'melancholy, inevitable to the tune of "I know it's over" and "Last Night I Dreamt That somebody loved me". The evening comes alive with "You're the One for Me, Fatty", "I'm throwing my arms around Paris" and especially the wonderful "Still Ill", which gives more of a thrill, especially when at the end of ' running our states that "ill still is the best way to be".

The concert goes on, song after song, from "The Same People are everywhere" to "Everyday is like sunday" through "Black Cloud", "Action is my middle name," the touching "Meat Is Murder" (accompanied by atrocious images of slaughtered chickens), "Let me kiss you", "Scandinavia" and many others, left until the end to another of the successes of the Smiths, the gorgeous "How soon is now?". Morrissey is shown in full form, is completely comfortable on stage invaded many times by girls into a frenzy, in which his voice gave a westerly breeze in this hot summer night. And if it is true that "To Give (The Reason I Live)", as sung in the cover of Frankie Valli, Moz tonight really gave everything. Mamma Roma thanks.

but he does know, thats why oscar was the first of the gang..some of us know

It was wonderful...and meat is murder was unbelievably cruel...I really hope people will think about it when they fancifully fry their food

Morrissey was in fine form and I thought the band sounded fantastic. Morrissey had sweat stains as he came onstage. Seriously Rome, you are too hot! It is my first visit here and I am staggered by the heat. Stand out track for me was Maladjusted. Of course the biggest roar of the night came as he launched into You Have Killed Me. The security appeared extremely rough. They were all over the stage invaders and were pulling them off stage in headlocks. I don't think I've seen it quite like that before. The venue was lovely and Morrissey had a long way to walk in the open when leaving/arriving. Awesome view of him trotting off stage with no shirt on. Very amusing. One million points off for EVERYONE smoking in the crowd. f***ing vile. Even with that, it was still a killer gig.

I think he said he would not go see Constance Wilde in Genoa because she had not been very nice to Oscar. Compared eating meat to the eating a six year old child cooked in an oven with herbs & spice.
Some of the songs that made it in the setlist included Maladjusted, Action is my Middle Name, and Scandinavia. The rest was similar from previous setlists. The security guy next to me managed to hit him (not super hard but still) in the face. Overall great crowd & venue, Morrissey was in top shape, the voice & the mood was good. Looking forward to Edinburgh.

I think the local security men were a little excited at times. Morrissey only has one security guard who is always heavy handed but that is to be expected i guess. Cannot wait forTurkey. Tshirts the band wore were fantastic and the new drummer sounded magnifico!! Tried to film some video but my battery died early into the show ;(

Morrissey and his band delivered a great performance! Great Audience and Venue!!! Mamma Roma ringrazia e ama Moz!

Thanks to aliceasr at the top for the Youtube links - excellent sound quality.

I do wish Moz had maintained 'The Kid's A Looker' in the set over 'AIMMN' and 'PATSE' - punchy, superbly phrased, laced with irony, brilliant vocal line, very funny. Can't understand why everyone dismissed it as a turkey.

Even at his age still charming and tremendously charismatic, great gig, we already are waiting you for next.. Loving you forever!

Maybe I'm being too quick in my judgement, but Eric does not suit Morrissey's band at all. His drumming is far too tepid and he should stick to swing or whatever it was he was doing before this. He looks more bored than Boz, and his effort-less style is less than appealing.

So now band members are to be judged on how they "seem"...? What next? How often they blink? What they had for breakfast? Grow up.

Seem? Where did that come from?

I was merely giving an opinion, whilst admitting it may be hasty... something you fail to do, you anonycunt

I loved Matt Walker but I think the Eric is a lot more subtle and brings a different feel.

People have long complained about the current state of Morrissey being to heavy. This is a swing back in the other direction.

I don't think anyone looks overly bored. They are not the headliner, they are going to be more reserved than if this was a true band.

I do like that Eric doesn't need to move like a lunatic to play a simple 4/4 beat.

I will miss Matt but I am quite happy with the replacement.
