What's the story with the two versions of Stretch Out And Wait?

I have always wondered why there are two versions of this song. It seems like the instrumentation is the same and the lyrics are very similar. It has always puzzled me why two,only slightly different versions were recorded. can anybody shed some light on the reason?

The lyrics have a slight change and there is definitely a difference in the music/arrangement.

No idea why. You might try using the internet to ask one of the band members. Outside of Morrissey the rest of them seem happy to talk about The Smiths.
