the pavers - mr shepards bandage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J28sb2eCTKs

the words:

"Oh, a million miles an hour, a thousand times a night,
I watch them burn red: Red rockets in my sight.
1944, Second World War,
At Anzio, we kicked in Mussolini's door.

That's when it came. German steel, Italian rain
Ripped razors through my leg and sent me back home...

Opened up my eyes, lovely VA nurse
Said, "Mr. Shepherd, you made it through the worst."
But she don't know what she means, 'cause she ain't seen what I've seen.
The worst gets worse every night in every dream.

Hot rockets hiss, hard violence, soft prom night kiss.
The first eighteen years add up to this.
Whispered on the rockets' hiss
It goes on and on...

Seems like a thousand years fell down, down on him.
A thousand fears ground down all around him.
Jagged edge gone soft with time,
And Mr. Shepherd's just fine.

At least that's what we believe 'cause we don't want to see.
He's still laid bare to the bone below his knee.
Here he comes again. I recognize his walk.
Sit right there Mr. Shepherd, please don't talk.

While cotton gauze still running red without a pause
While everyone forgets the cause
of the horror there beneath the gauze
that goes on and on
for Mr. Shepherd."

this was all's second singer and it could be argued there best. after he left he did two albums as the pavers and in the second he writes this very personal story of why hes quitting music. says he needs to pay everyone back that he borrowed money from in order to make records and to just try and take care of his children. he literally couldnt afford to keep making records which is a shame cause theyre awesome especially if you like the descendents and all. he writes a couple of songs about being molested that are really harrowing and make me think he knows someone who was abused (sicko dad). also the song peanut about a child used as a commodity for image is also really good.

the mars volta - televators
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRdZP5JKviQ

this is set to an animated short called "the hangman" from 1964 and it amazing. its about there key board player who committed suicide right while they were writing and recording. a tribute to a dead friend who couldnt escape his head.

the words (of which are all real):

"Just as he hit
The ground
They lowered a tow that
Stuck in his neck to the gills
Fragments of sobriquets
riddle me this
three half eaten corneas
who hit the aureole
Stalk the ground
Stalk the ground
You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Only this manupod
Crescent in shape has escaped

The house half the way
Fell empty with teeth
That split both his lips
Mark these words
One day this chalk outline will circle this city
Was he robbed of the asphalt that cushioned his face
A room colored charlatan
Hid in a safe
Stalk the ground
Stalk the ground
You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Only this manupod
Crescent in shape has escaped

Pull the pins
Save your grace
Mark these words
On his grave
[x3]

You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Everyone knows the last toes are
Always the coldest to go

Scott Reynolds was my favorite singer of ALL, actually! My favorite ALL LP is “Allroy’s Revenge” which I think is just front to back awesome. I had the chance to see Scott play solo last summer at a bar about 10 minutes from my house. Just him and an acoustic guitar. He did a couple ALL songs and some other stuff too. It was really good. He’s supposedly releasing a new solo album that he did a Kickstarter for like 2 years ago. I look forward to hearing it!

Here’s a pic of me and Scott from said show:

dude what are you doing to me here. hectors seen the reunited germs youre seeing fall out boy and getting pics as well as hanging out with scott. agree about scott as he still had that down trodden vibe to some of his songs that chad doesnt really possess and both pavers albums were super good as well as the wrecking ball e.p. scary sad girl is my favorite song sung by scott i think as the lyrics are great, every time she slits her wrist i wish shed hit instead of miss (or) and every girl that ive ever hated is just a monster that ive created and if i close my eyes real tight allt he scary sad things will go away and ill go back to living in yesterday without all of the scary sad things you put me through. really rings home as ive been there so so many times. glad to see he can do music again in some fashion though as that honestly warms my heart. he taught me what a fierce apple was to :) (creepy). im almost afraid to say another fav band as i think youll just pull out another pic and taunt me (just kidding). try the mars volta clip just for the short film as its really good (though you probably already know the band) but the film really blew me away as its synced so well. can i ask in what part of the us you live. i myself live in baltimore and you dont have to reveal where you are if you dont want to, i wont get offended but was just curious. were you happy to see the new rise against do so well as you said before you were a fan? really kind of surprises me that you guys are hear and listen to and know of any of this music. people know the descendents even if they dont listen and some know all but no one ever knows scott or any of his music. no one ive met anyway.

Is this one of those images you're supposed to stare at with eyes unfocused to get that 3D effect?

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. I came to Morrissey/The Smiths through the HC/punk scene (same as a lot of people I know) so I’m sure you’ll see a lot of spillover there.

I enjoyed Mars Volta at times but I was much more into At The Drive In who I had the pleasure of seeing a couple times in the 90’s. They were fun.

nice fred, that means were very close and might see each other at some shows. did you see morrissey when he was in redding cause i and my wife were there and he did like four or six smiths songs two from there debut i think which kicked major ass. do you perhaps know of braid? im seeing the last show of there reunion tour in philly in august (let me know if you wanna hang with a hardcore all fan whos also a hardcore morrissey fan for a pre show drink or something. im 34 college educated blah blah but if you dont im not gonna be hurt or anything so no worries on that front). im kinda jealous of your state at the moment as theyre putting out a lot of good young bands at the moment like tigers jaw and modern baseball etc. im a huge fan of braids frame and canvas (the killing of a camera being one of there best songs) and that show is gonna be super sweet. im not really a big mars volta fan, like yourself i wanna hear something more like in casino out, but i missed that phase. as for the mars volta im only a fan of the first album since john from the chilli peppers played and wrote a bunch of it and maybe half of francis the mute (i liked how the lyrics were formed from a found lost diary). after that i just couldnt deal with it or them but the fan made video using the animated short for televators was really good. im more a fan of the video (1964) than i am of the song though i do like the biological terms he sorta uses as well as the word auto defe. good times. one of my best memories of philly is seeing anti flag play a tent show tour of there album die for the government i think. ah being young. hard to believe they just hit a twenty year anniversary mark. even weirder seeing chris speaking on cnn years later but i guess the futures a funny unpredictable thing. mostly it just makes me feel old. cheers

Never really heard much Braid though I do have “Frames and Canvas” in my iTunes. Will Yip produced their latest album at Studio 4 in Conshohocken (at least some of it) and he’s a cool guy. One of my old bands recorded there with him. I’m curious to hear how the record sounds. I did not see Moz in Reading though I wish I had, especially now as I’m not sure if/when he’ll be back around. Sounds like we’re of the same era, I’m 33. As for that Braid type stuff...I was always more partial to Jimmy Eat World, Texas Is The Reason, Promise Ring, etc.

marred: Per your PM, it’s funny you mention the Pixies (who I also LOVE) in reference to that Bob Mould video. The eagle eye may notice that Bob puts up a “classified ad” to find a bassist who likes “Husker Du and Peter Paul & Mary” and that’s actually the ad the Pixies put up and got one reply to (from Kim Deal) and history was made.

Wow I didn't know that. I saw the Breeders here earlier in the year and they were amazing. They played the entire Last Splash album and some of Pod but unfortunately didn't play my all time fave Safari!

That tour came to Philly last year I think. I regret not going a bit!

never a braid fan until a couple of years ago but then i heard killing of a camera and just fell in love with the song. did you get the american football album reissue cause that was stupid good and an excellent job well done (would love to go to those reunion show but they sold out in like an instant). i like all those bands except for the promise ring which i just find alright and i guess ill say it, i dont really care for clarity (i know i know) though im a big jimmy eat world fan. there new one was surprisingly pretty good as well as they did indeed steal me back. of course i like the pixies new album and all though im not a breeders fan (maybe a casual fan of last splash. i thought the best thing kim did was fifty foot wave). who doesnt like the pixies though cause ive never met them. as for stuff like braid im pretty into cursive, mineral (which is remastering there back catalog now), get up kids, lifetime, jawbox, sunnyday real estate, hey mercedes , cap'n jazz, joan of arc, knapsack, the gloria record, brand new etc. even really like owen though it can be fifty fifty sometimes cause he just puts out like anything and everything he writes. would have loved to have seen thursdays basement shows back in the day and i still really really love that band. there last album was a surprise in the best ways. hes, geoff, is in a new band now with the former members of the lost prophets called no devotion and there new stuff goes in a power synth pop direction which suits hom really well. though theyre through being cool save the day can be pretty good at time as well as brand new (who of course loves morrissey and mentions him as reason for leaving his girlfriend). she doesnt appreciate him or morrissey. this is a way more obscure one i think but being from the same place around the time somewhat, were you ever into dandelion? love both there albums but they never got as big as i thought they should have been. they were a grunge band from 92 through 95 and pretty awesome if your into the sound. think nirvana mudhoney not pearl jam sound garden.

thought i should like actually post a song or something.

killing a camera
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGVHvCcXylY

the words:

"got caught kicking the canvas down
i had plans but they never seemed to work out
wide-eyed and on the lookout, aww
got caught tearing the whole thing down
i was halfway done
but then you know this scene could never leave me
oh please believe me

caught killing a camera now
it seems calming and clear, to hire
a cast of kittens, the cats we've been kissing
for the cameras we're lowering here
got caught tearing the whole thing down
i was halway done
but then
we sang it for memphis
the new slang in frame and canvas
just for the cameras

when we are awake
so this is where you must make up your mind (we say never... ever)
when we are awake
should beauty be by design, this time? (we say never... ever)
when we are awake
this time you decide cause we go with whatever (we say never ...ever)
when we are awake we take our time

got a cough
my throat kills from singing
my ears are ringing
the stage is slowly sinking
and we're all thinking the same thing (yeah)
let's not settle for satisfaction
we are women and men of action
let's stop clapping let's start doing
a dream for the teens and in-betweens
and twenties yet unseen"

god i love this. so inspiring and it makes me wanna put my fist through some drywall.

Never heard Dandelion, but I feel like I’ve heard OF them.

You mention Lifetime and Saves The Day in there, love both! Saw Lifetime for the first time in ’96 playing the Drexel University cafeteria, a few months before they broke up the first time. That was great. Also saw Saves The Day for the first time when they just had the demo tape out and were still playing hardcore shows. Also great.
