Best song, best line, best lyric right now

Re: Best Song, Best Line, Best Lyric RIGHT NOW (Non-Morrissey Edition)

I'm not a good friend, I'm not a friend at all
...it's never resolved, I'm nervous when you call

My words are limp, and my mind is dry
I try to be polite, but I feel
like I'm stuck for life

I follow my heart, it leads me far from you
no matter how close we are, I'm far, far away
I have too much now to fill my day today

I'm not a good friend, I'm not a friend at all
I don't need obligations to our
crippled conversations
I'd never tell you,
it's something you should know

I'm not a friend at all, oh, please let me go

Somehow I don't trust you
I don't trust myself
and I may never forgive you
because I can't forgive myself
Somehow I don't trust you
I don't trust myself
and I may never forgive you
because I can't forgive myself

Don't break my stride
Don't break my stride
Don't break my stride
Don't break my stride

I make my way back home to you;
head north on San Marco Avenue

White crosses on the church lawn-
I want to smash them all

Worse Things Happen At Sea (Frank Turner)

Honestly, relax my dear, it’s clear that we are done.
It doesn’t take a scientist to figure out that one.
It’s obvious, the way you move, the way you hold your head,
The way you hide your pretty eyes and shift across the bed.

Honestly, I’ll be fine, this isn’t my first time.
I’ve taken blows before and every time I have survived.
You made it clear you didn’t care, you never did pretend,
And in the end at least you never try to f*** my friends.

Well honestly it doesn’t matter, I know better than
To cry over spilt milk, wasted effort, spoiled plans.
We’re adults here so shed no tears, I’m sure we can be friends.
I’ll nod and smile and watch you in the arms of other men.

Well honestly, your honesty, it has emerged unscathed,
And I hope you’re doing fine, because me, I’m doing f***ing great.
And I wouldn’t want to waste another second of your time –
I know my place, I know your face,
So you hide yours and I’ll keep to mine.

You say “Worse things happen at sea”,
I say “Worse things have happened to me”.
Bitter eyes to the bedroom floor –
And we’re not going to talk anymore,
We’ve got nothing to talk for,
And you’ve got nothing to be sorry for.
And I’ve got no one to care for.

This is the worst thing that’s happened to me.
I guess worse things happen at sea.

Just feels apt (and pretty ironic), right now. Oh well.

Steely Dan- "Deacon Blues"

"I crawl like a viper
Through these suburban streets
Make love to these women
Languid and bittersweet
I'll rise when the sun goes down
Cover every game in town
A world of my own
I'll make it my home sweet home "

Excite me, excite me-
nothing really excites me.
There's no connection at all.

There's no connection at all.
Excite me, excite me-
nothing really excites me.
There's no connection at all.

No connection at all.

Do I love you because you treat me so indifferently?
Or is it the medication?
Or is it me?

Does your heart sag?
Fed up with the tag which you've been given...

Best line I've ever heard, well, verse, is the opening verse to 'Charge' by The Divine Comedy, which brilliantly carries off the juxtaposition of the act of sex with a battle in the Boer war. Really.

"Lady Smith wants you forthwith
To come to her relief
Burn your briefs and leave for France tonight

Carefully cut the straps from the booby traps
And set the captives free

But don't shoot till you see her big blue eyes"

Mmmmm. Booby traps. Been snared by those a few times myself.

Their cover of There Is A Light is really good, and usually I hate Smiths covers of all kinds.

I also like their song The Happy Goth. Great tune, and he rhymes "blackest cloth" with Hoth...as in the snow planet.

And let's not forget National Express, which passed everyone by as being about the National Health Service.

Yes, yes, yes, oh, yes
Oh no, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
Oh...
Yes, yes...

"A beauty impossible to endure
The blood imparted in little sips
The smell of you still on my hands
As I bring the cup up to my lips

No God up in the sky
And no devil beneath the sea
Could do the job that you did, baby
Of bringing me to my knees"
