Officially, at least. As of 6 am this morning, lead singer Davey Havok made a brief, but clear post on the AFI Official Message Board, titled "This is the end. AFI is done."
And many of us are rather devastated. As I was not alive when the Smiths broke, I can now imagine what it was like for them. Of course, AFI's break up was more due to a change in direction and mood and problems with record labels rather than any messy band drama, so I guess I can be grateful for that. But it is still heart breaking to see. If it weren't for AFI, I would not be into half of what I am into now, as the fans and band members introduced me to so much in the ways of music and art and ideas. For me, AFI was the first band I was a true, hardcore fan of. It is also the only band I ever cared to join the official fan club of. Sad day.
