... what do Smiths / Moz fans think about Belle and Sebastian? For me, it's probably one of the best groups today.

I like em!

I have to say that I'm not one to have a lot of luck with bands that are recommended to me by other fans. Belle & Sebastian were an exception. I downloaded a couple of their songs and now I ended up buying the entire collection.
Brilliant stuff!
The Boy With The Arab Strap - Classic album
i agree. one of the best groups today, and maybe one of the best since the smiths. wonderful band.

i think my love was recently rekindled with them. at the beginning, they were excellent. their last few EP's were somewhat in the middle, but the soundtrack to the movie that they just released is full of great stuff, and it only marred by the shitty movie dialogue excerpts, but its nothing a skip button won't take care of.

I was in love with B&S for quite some time. Tigermilk, If Your Feeling Sinister, Boy With The Arab Strap, Fold Your Hands...all classic. Perhaps my expectations for 'Storytelling' were too high. After hearing it, I wanted to vomit. It's awful, they're losing it. I hope this boring assault on our senses isn't a sign of things yet to come.
I bought one of their albums ages ago, The Boy With the Arab Strap, or something equally lame. I really hated it.
Wanna try something more interesting?

I'd tell you about another one of my faves, but I don't want anyone else to have him.

I just like Boy with the arab strap, wich has some lovely tunes, but they make me sleep if I listen more than one time for a week. Isobel has a great voice, but she's not part of the band anymmore, unfortunatelly. The pop art cover sleeves remind the smiths a lot.
No they aren't. Their tunes are not that easy to understand, and they create as an artist with "dry point" on a metal: pure art. I don't like everything by Belle & Sebastian, but they surely don't care about my taste for music. They compose because they need to express themselves. Oasis is irrelevant.

Your'e joking right? These guys couldn't write a good song if you poured hot lead up their arses!

Well, my nick is from the song 'Fox in the Snow' ('If you Feeling Sinister' album) 'nuff said. I really dig 'em... for many reasons: very sublime poetry, carrying on VU and Smiths spirit in their music. Also, they are all nice peoples, no bullshit or fake celebrity glitter, their honesty...

I love them....especially If You're Feeling Sinister....

"He had a stroke at the age of 24/ It could have been a brilliant career"
Is this gay or what? I mean, B& S is just too affected and pretentious. Too juvenile. Too art school. Every single person who wears B&S t-shirts deserves to be bullied.
Not as bad as Oasis, true, but still quite unlistenable.

SHE had a stroke at the age of 24, you ninny!
> SHE had a stroke at the age of 24, you ninny!
Well, the Jeepster site states otherwise (the song starts with "HE had a stroke" and so on). The second stanza (if such drivel may be so called) has a "she" and the third one also features a "he". So it's He 2X1 She.
Anyway, when it comes to B&S, it's quite hard to tell "hes" and "shes" apart. They all look androgynous to me.
