"The Royal Family are benefit scroungers" - BBC Radio interview excerpts

Radio 5 Live have just played part of an interview (presumably the Dermot O'Leary one) where Morrissey says that the Royal Family are benefit scroungers. Nicky Campbell commented "There goes his Knighthood!".

May be worth listening to Radio 5 Live, as I got the impression they were going to play some more.

The singer and songwriter Morrissey has told the BBC he believes the Royal family are benefit scroungers who do not speak for England.

Reporting on BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast, Colin Paterson said the former lead singer of The Smiths called the future Mrs Windsor 'Kate Muddleton'.

"Why would I watch the wedding?" Morrissey asked. "I do seriously believe that they are benefit scroungers, nothing else."

I bet Celibate Cry the pain in the eye has something ever so inane to share with us about this.

DAMN STRAIGHT THEY ARE MOZ!

Those in-bred, German, horse-faced, parasitic f***ers should be throne out of Britain! I'm so sick of em all! Well said, Mozmondo. xx

aw, well the Royals have some traditions which are in Morrissey's lyric's from Smiths year 1

Well I'm hoping William will be the upcoming King and pass Charles, so William
could do a bit about that old stif tradition and make the UK Roayals a bit more
public and openly for media

too much specualtion about the past, William can turn it, also
forgive Morrissey, well understand Morrissey and Marr, and will
give them the title Sir Morrissey and Sir Marr

I'm not talking about 2 years but 10 maybe, if
he becomes the King within or around 5 years from now

otoh Morrissey would or could say , no thanks, not not betraying my believes, and
don't wanna be in a list of people he loathes

Who gives a toss what any teenage dads on their estate are watching. They're hardly worth bothering about, are they? Any such spotted scumbags would be more interested in watching Die Hard 5: Death Even Harder Extreme Version than anything ever broadcast on BBC Four. Lowlife such as this should be left to rot in their own juices rather than us giving one f***wit of a nanosecond debating whether something appeals to teenage caveman on his c***cil estate.

Celibate, what are you f***ing on about? Seriously?

Why would Moz or Marr ever want to become part of the 'establishment' that they've despised for years and ever want to become 'Sirs?'
Don't you know anything what they are about? Part of the appeal about Moz and Marr to many people (apart from the fantastic music) is that they are so outspoken about the upperclass, priveledged cretins such as the royals, cameron, etc, and how unfair and f***ed up the system and modern life is in this country, and so on? And it's said in such an articulate, intelligent, honest and funny way! Being a Smiths fan is a badge of honour in my opinion...As a die hard fan, I certainly wouldn't want Moz or Marr to embrace the right wing establishment of the royals, etc, in any way shape or form, now or ever.
Why the f*** do you?

Why am I asking you this anyway?? I wont get a seroius answer.... All your posts are a daily dose of bollock brained drivel anyway....dont bother replying. I seriously wonder about the f***ing mentality of people on here these days....Is it me?

I'm off for a lie down.
Cheers,

Edd from Glasgow.

he really is off his cake isn't he

erm wasnt morrissey himself happy enough to claim benefits when he was younger? as he thought england owed him a living?

My first encounter with Morrissey: Watching MTV around the time of Sarah & Andrew's wedding. It was 120 minutes (I think) When Downtown Julie Brown was a host. It was the first time I had ever heard of anyone bashing the monarchy in England. I remember he said, it's a big fairy tale to distract people. "Oh, good we don't have to talk about apartheid now, we don't have to talk about..." etc, etc.. Does anyone remember this interview? I think they played There is a Light immediately after.

I'm not too bothered these days about the Royals appearing as a bunch of 'benefit scroungers'. Well, why should I? Our country already has millions of benefit scroungers, anyway. And Morrissey always detested working and has done his share of dole scrounging. Personally, I couldn't give a toss about the wedding.
The Royals are essentially the head of the Church Of England, that's their official role. All or most countries have religious or spiritual leaders, always have done. In the current global climate, I think we could do a lot worse that them, unless we have something like the taliban instead. Moz is a Catholic but he doesn't ever seem to have had the balls to speak out about the Pope sitting in his palace, paid for by the state, just as the Queen is. Now, please, I'm neither a Royalist nor a religious person. I just find it astounding that Moz has never attacked the Catholic establishment in the same way he attacks everything else, especially given their track record for abuse, rape, corruption etc.
I've always thought hard about what I'd like to ask Morrissey and today I stumbled upon my question. Here it is: Given the fact that you think the Royals are a bunch of benefit scroungers, as a Catholic yourself, how would you feel about the Pope being in Buckingham Palace?
I really would urge anybody interviewing him in future to ask him. That would be interesting. What do you think?

Morrissey has never attacked the Catholic establishment? Have you heard "Children in Pieces"?

You total ignoramus. If I was Queen you would be first against the wall.

The point being is that the royals are benefit scroungers yet still feel there above the rest of the country, expected to be bowed down to, just simple fascism.

first take some benzo's , maybe you can post a bit releaxed

as I wrote, Morrissey is/was with the Smiths and the other 3 against
the Royals and the old tradiotion, which was in lots of songs/lyrics

o.t.o.h. and you can't deny it, he's proud to be brittish, that does
not mean he supports the stiff old system behind the Lords the Parlement
and the people who are born with a title, and have a huge old castle,
or big old National Culture piece of land where there familyroots lay,
no I know Morrissey is sorta.or was working class/ middle class
who goes again the Royals and the Lords and other upper class

so yes, he would not want to be a knight if it offers him know,
but as I wrote if this Queen is gone, and William a young King
who don't want live the live indoors and go on with all the traditions

maybe he want to be more open for all Brittish or tourists
and stop the joke before Buck-in-ham Palace with the guard,
just ordinary security

maybe , if it happens, Morrissey might think it's OK,
but indeed he will not be on the list off all those people in the past
he loathes

but did you ever thought in 1986 Morrissey in a Gucci suit and tie

you get the idea

time changes, tradition with Prince William, hopefully soon King William will
cut all the costs of all ' that what tradition means'

Interesting to hear Morrissey say that he wasn't an anarchist; I'd always presumed he was - albeit an Individualist anarchist (or, as George Orwell described himself in the early-1930's, a 'Tory Anarchist'). Perhaps we can presume he still considers himself a socialist?

Does anyone have the full text for this interview as my hearing aid is on the blink
