Trespassing
In UK, if someone trespasses into your house/settlement then you have no right to take any physical action/violence against the trespasser and you face judgement from the courts, if you do...What are your thoughts about this?
My thought: If someone had broken in my house to steal things and cause possible harm to me and my family then I would have to find a nice place in the garden to bury the body

here in the US we can shoot them dead. they just have to be inside when the cops get there. this is why you should not go to them, let them come to you.

But couldn't you say it's selfdefence? If someone is breaking into your house in the middle of the night it's threat a to you.

In the UK, that excuse is not accepted and many people go to prison...
However in many other countries legally you can get away with it!

??? But if you really feel that something is a threat you have the right to defend yourself. And if I in the middle of the night go downstairs and find someone stealing my stuff I would say that's a threat to me.

Isn't it just a matter of not going too far? I mean, of course you can't shot an unarmed trespasser in the back but surely you can beat him up a bit and tie him up waiting for the police?

Not really, in court the trespassers are still deemed as "victims" and they can take the owners of the house/property to court for charges of bodily harm or assult or attempted murder...and then the REAL victim(s) can be thrown away into prision for years for simply trying to protect their families and property
