Funeral wreath for Melinda Hsu

i was thinking about a sign of condolence for Melinda Hsu and thinking about
a funeral-wreath paid in the name of morrissey fans
Therefore someone in the US could be the one ordering it and sending it to the memorial or mel`s family and first of all open their paypal account for collecting the money from moz fans.
What do you think?
the memorial is at the 15th of may.

Count me in. Good idea. From all of us here.

Possibly subscription account in mainpage can be used for collecting the donation?
the one who collecting all the money sent in should be from the US i think.
so anyone from here, maybe even davidt himself could be the one open their own paypal account and also forward the story to the main page.
paypal seems to be the easiest as foreign banktransfers (sending money to a account ourtside of my country) are a bit complicated at least in my bank.

The subscription account is a paypal account which is maintained by David himself.
If you have a paypal account you don't have to worry about it.

Great idea. I'm in.

Good idea, though sometimes family prefer donation to a cause rather than flowers.
i havent thought about that. good idea. i have mailed the family my condolences and asked them.

Hi everyone,
A few of us who were close to her were just talking about this. I'm sure it would mean a great deal to her family. We've called the funeral home to ask if there's been any decision about whether they'd rather donations in lieu of flowers, and there hasn't been. I suspect with it still being a few weeks off, her family is a bit overwhelmed and still sorting the details.

In any case, I think it's a lovely idea, and it would be fine to start collecting money and decide what it's for later, or just to collectively decide to send something or make a donation, as I'm certain the gesture would be appreciated regardless of what you guys settle on.

If you do decide to send something tangible, I'll try to remember to take a picture at the memorial.

Take care,
lulu

count me in too

what about splitting it.part donation part flowers?
i think this a good descision cause im sure enough people would spend money,
@ myna which cause would be good? animal causes? human rights?

maybe for the people who know her but only visit the mainboard-someone should transfer the topic to the mainboard as seen by the response on the mainboard..
i also have a slight problem with paypal (checked it yesterday , never had problems with them but know when i need them..)grrr and have to ask someone from germany that i could transfer my money through good old bank transfer onto theirs(must be a german one of course) so he/she could could then paypal their own and mine for mel ?tdas wäre das einfachste und ich müsste mir nicht extra einen neuen paypal anlegen was ja auch quatsch ist das meine aktuelle ja nicht für ewig probleme machen wird. das wird möglich sein oder?danke
please-thanks

so who will now collecting it?

You can open a new paypal account from other email account.

This is kind of an update: as Lulu said, as of yesterday the family hasn't made a decision yet whether they prefer flowers or donations. But if anyone wants to go ahead and make a donation in Mel's name regardless, the consensus of her friends is that a donation to an animal rights charity - PETA or otherwise - would be a wonderful gesture that she & her family would very much appreciate.

If people want to group together to send flowers and if there is no "official" solo organized paypal address set up by David T, I'd be happy to be the person who takes the $ and organizes it. The service is still 2 weeks away, so maybe give it 2 or 3 days to see if we need to do it this way or if there will be a more formal way to do it through solo?

Jolly good. Paypal is good for me.

jamescagney and I were just emailing about this. We're thinking maybe Paypal isn't the way to go. Paypal charges 30 cents plus 3% to 4% for each donation made. Also, Paypal charges you $10 if someone contacts their bank or credit card to dispute the donation as an unauthorized charge to their account, not that anyone would do that, but... I dunno. It's bothersome for whoever is in charge of it.

An alternative could be to instead pick a charity and tell people to donate directly to the charity. I think that's what families more typically do in such cases. We have a few choices here. Some charities make this easy by setting up a non-profit Paypal account or a way to donate via cell phone text message. I'm not sure PETA does that. But they do have the web page below that lets one set up a memorial to the person and then people go to the memorial to make donations.

Maybe the easiest route would be we could have people text “PETS” to 90999 to donate $5 to Best Friends Animal Society. I don't know any of them but charitywatch.org / American Institute of Philanthropy says they're a good charity.

Having said all that, feel free to go with the Paypal idea. We're just brainstorming.

ASPCA will let you set up a tribute web page, where you can put up pictures and messages, and the URL can be emailed around to donate via that method. And ASPCA also accepts (or used to accept, I'll test to confirm later when I get home - I'm on my way out the door now) $5 donations via text message from cell phones. Mel's family might be interested to know that too as it might save them some trouble.

If ASPCA stopped accepting donations by text message, there's always Best Friends Animal Society:

I like the idea of a PETA memorial page, like the sample you included above. That way people can make direct contributions.

I'd also contribute to a wreath/flowers if someone is coordinating that for the memorial.

hi again everyone,
mel's sister in law just dropped me a quick note and said that mel's mother would love to have some flowers and suggested that for donations we might consider diabetes research.

i am never, ever on solo, but i talk to claudia2006 and scarletibis often, so if i hear anything new, they'll know.

take care take care take care all <3 <3 <3

Also, please note that Mel herself supported PETA. I'll leave the rest of it to you. "I give them some here and there where I can."

——Adam

BIG P.S. If you have high resolution images of Mel (i.e. suitable for oversized prints), I have a professional quality solid ink printer and a banner printer, and (even if it's for our own private memories) I'm printing them on a heavy card stock. [Of course, knowing Mel, we must destroy them immediately or else — unless her family wants them.]

Ive just got an email from the family.( I did mail to the emialdress which got posted on the mainboard.)
her sister in law appreciates very much if we would sent a wreath in the name of morrissey fans for the memorial cause moz was such a big part in mel`s life.

if some money is still spare from the collected money for the wreath she said she is fine with when some donations goes to the cause of diabetes or if we choose another:any other fund we feel is fitting for mel, should go; like animal rights/causes for example
so a defenitive yes from the family for the wreath
I'd be happy to be the person who takes the $ and organizes it
yes claudia that would be great.paypal if possible.

someone fowarding the whole action to the mainboard for those not visiting the forums?

Yes, Sistasheila definitely watch this space and/or the main page. Just talked to Lulu, & we're working out the relevant info & everything to make it as easy & clear as possible for anybody who wants to contribute. Thanks so much.

Edit: just wanted to say the general idea is that contributions will go to buy a nice arrangement for the memorial, and any left over will be donated to PETA and a diabetes research group. Now looking into diabetes research charities, so any ideas would be great.
