What's your favourite funny song?

John Shuttleworth - Up & Down like a Bride's Nightie

the ultimate mental health companion!

Yay - I'm glad someone mentioned the sublime John Shuttleworth (I guess most people know that he and Jilted John are both creations of the wonderful Graham Fellowes?), though I'd have nominated either 'Two Margarines On The Go' or 'Austin Ambassador Y Reg'. Graham Fellowes was also responsible for the fantastic Smiths pisstake called 'It's My Turn To Be Poorly'. The Neil Innes' Rutles songs are great (and demonstrate how trite and formulaic most Lennon/McCartney compostions are). The Python 'Drunken Philosophers' song is surely a classic. And a lot of Ron Mael's lyrics for Sparks are masterpieces of hilarity: I'd nominate 'I Married Myself', 'Suburban Homeboy', 'Tits', 'Under The Table With Her', 'Ladies', 'Here Comes Bob', and 'Without Using Hands'.

For people of a certain age, this will raise a smile:

"...Your face is like a coffee pot,
Your nose is like a spout,
Your mouth is like a fireplace,
With all the ashes out..."

"Flop Eared Mule"
by Andy Griffith

Use to have an old Banjo,
It was all strung up with twine,
And the only song you could hear me sing was,
I wish that gal was mine.

Well, I wish that gal was mine, boys.
I wish that gal was mine,
And the only song you could hear me sing,
Was I wish that gal was mine.

Whoa mule, you kicking mule,
Whoa mule, I say,
I ain't got time to kiss you now,
My mule has run away.

Took my wife to the barn yard,
And I sit her down to supper,
Well, she got choked on a turkey leg,
And stuck her nose in the butter.

Stuck her nose in the butter,
Stuck her nose in the butter,
Well, she got choked on a turkey leg,
And stuck her nose in the butter.

Whoa mule, you kicking mule,
Whoa mule, I say,
Tie a knot in that old mules tail,
Before he runs away.

Your face is like a coffee pot,
Your nose is like a spout,
Your mouth is like a fireplace,
With all the ashes out.

Well, With all the ashes out, boys,
With all the ashes out,
Your mouth is like a fireplace,
With all the ashes out.

Whoa mule, you kicking mule,
Whoa mule, I say,
I ain't got time to kiss you now,
My mule has run away.

Probably one of the funniest songs i've ever heard was on a college radio station back in 2002. The main chorus was; "Godfrey, the sickly unemployed amateur children's magician.." I don't remember the name of the group that did this song, but there were parts in it where you could tell they were seriously refraining from cracking up. I guess the lyrics can be googled somewhere.

I don't think I've ever listened to "Seventies Night" by The Fall without laughing out loud at least twice.
