Thread: Noel and William Gallagher - what will their post-Oasis stuff be like?

Default Noel and William Gallagher - what will their post-Oasis stuff be like?

I've never been a big Oasis fan. Liked (and bought) a few singles, but never any of their albums.
However, I'm intrigued by what Noel and (Wil)liam will do next.
Virtually every review of their last album said that Noel's songs were great, but those written by the other band member were generally duff. Doesn't bode well for William and co's album due out this summer...

If Liam is adventurous, he might take up Chemical Brothers type of direction.

However, judging from his writing credit I don't have high hopes.

Noel will end up writing blogs like Alan McGee and Liam will appear on the Xfactor. As a judge.

And then they'll reunite in 2014 for the 20th anniversary tour of Definitely Maybe

    Liam - distinctly average.

Noel - slightly better, but nothing extraordinary.

Or they could both release some absolute shite. I don't know.

They'll just try and do Knebworth all over again. They should have stopped writing after 2000

    just to add...
altho Noel got most of the credit for the quality songs on the last album (can't remember its name), I thought Liam's 'I'm outta time' was really good. it's the first time I'd ever heard him sing with any sensitivity or subtlety.
on all the other songs I've heard him sing, he just blasts them out (like a proverbial foghorn), as if the lyrics were written in a foreign language that he doesn't understand.

Whilst you just sit there in your shitty house in Glasgow writing bitter analysis of the multi millionaire Gallaghers, they are sat in their mansions living it up.

Before you dismiss them as 'distinctly average' and 'slightly better', let's see your efforts in the music industry so we can make comparisons with Burnage's finest

Between them they made the greatest pair of first two albums in the history of music. Granted, beyond that they failed to reach those heights.... but my, what standards they set with those first two albums

You seem to be having a bad day and taking it out on me. I wish you wouldn't. But such is life.

And my house isn't shitty. It's pretty swanky and expensive actually. But I'm not one to blow my own horn, not with my back.

bit of an odd argument. presumably you're a huge fan of the likes of Chris De Burgh because he's become a multi-millionaire through the music industry, and owns several very expensive properties?

This bass-line shits all over anything Rourke ever did. And the lyrics... sublime.

No, having a good day actually. I just happen to disagree with a few things you have said. Is that unusual on a discussion board?

I have to completley AGREE JJ, The first two albums set a standard which even Noel and Liam have acknowledged as being no way reachable ever again within their song writing.

Its too easy to slag Oasis of these days, but take away there first two albums and you find they have a great back-catelogue, its just that anything they do gets compared to DM and WTSMG, which is a shame.

The Last album was brilliant in my opinion, some stomping tunes and some really nice songwriting.

Who else could sell out 3 nights at Heaton Park 70,000 each night, 3 at wembley stadium 80,000+, and other venues like Millenium Stadium, Richo Arena, Sundeland Stadium of light, Slane Castle and Murryfield??? At the end of their span aswell (with many slagging them off)

Oasis are and always will be one of the GREATEST BANDS of all time

Also Moz is a fan so he cant be wrong
2006- Blackburn King Georges Hall, Manchester G-Mex (22&23/12)
2008- London Roundhouse, Doncaster Dome, Sunderland Empire, London Hyde Park

2011- Dunoon Queens Hall, Hawick Town Hall, Grimsby Auditorium, York Barbican, Bradford St Georges Hall, Leeds Academy, Stoke Victoria Hall

Has Moz ever really declared himself to be an Oasis fan?
I don't mind 'em. Not a huge fan but they've written quite a few catchy pop songs over the years. However, listing the places they've sold out doesn't really prove anything. It just means they're in the same commercial league as Chris de Burgh, James Blunt, and Robbie Williams. Big deal!

I used to like them, they were quite exciting in 1994. That first LP despite being being one big pastiche had a raw energy to it.
Saw them live in a small gig in Cardiff that year where the crowd ribbed them all night concerning a certain FA Cup shock earlier that year. They seemed to thrive off the antagonism.

The second album is pretty crap in my opinion, I hate that one that sounds like Imagine. Don't Look Back In Anger, that one, middle-aged music for beery lads. Roll With It. Indeed theres roughly 3 or 4 good (not brilliant) songs) then they became ridiculously popular and irrelevant and took too much sniff. I like Paul Weller's Stanley Road from that period though, so I'm not just being a revisionist.

I've seen them a few times since and without wishing to be a snob they deserve the crowd they get. BUt its always good to have a sing-a-long. Which is what they are an excuse for pissed-up folks to sing meaningless tripe to catchy tunes, nicked from the atypical Rock School classics

I believe it was Jarvis Cocker who observed that Britpop's greatest legacy was the wearing of shirts outside the trousers, to cover up beer bellies.

Columbia is still a fucking ace song though

Moz was at their concert last year in l.a and went back stage after aswell for a beer. He once spoke about meeting liam on a flight and was astonished at how nice he was. Also on the importance of being morrissey, Noel and liam are seen backstage after the gig

They were the first band/ music I ever got into, so I'm debt to them, though once I'd read up about their influences and I discovered The Smiths etc, there was no looking back from there. However, I do still like a lot of their stuff. Favourite tracks are probably Columbia, It's Good To Be Free, Gas Panic & Whatever.

I think they just got really lazy, Noel in particular. I hope now Noel is free of all the frustrations that he'll come up with something different, maybe something a bit more experimental and psychedelic.

The only direction I can see the rest of Oasis taking now is making an average rock record, though I hope to be proven wrong. Liam's songs are generally pretty poor.
