An obese mother killed her much smaller boyfriend after she sat on him during an argument.

Mia Landingham, who weighs more than 21 stone, squashed Mikal Middlestone-Bey to death after they had a fight last August.

During her trial, Landingham apologised for killing eight-stone Mikal - the father of her three children.

Her attorney said there was a long history of domestic abuse in the relationship and asked the judge for leniency.

She was sentenced to three years probation and 100 hours community service after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter – despite facing a maximum five-year jail term.

Landingham was immediately released from jail on Wednesday after the trial in Cleveland, Ohio.

Landingham told the court: ‘I just want to say that I am sincerely sorry about this situation. I wish I could take it back.’

Mikal's family were outraged by the result. One of his sisters said: ‘So basically you can say that I can go sit on somebody and get probation?

‘I feel there wasn't no justice.’

An obese Ohio woman, who was convicted of killing her boyfriend by sitting on him, was sentenced to three years’ probation and 100 hours of community service by a Cleveland judge.

According to the police report, on August 14, 2009, Mia Landingham and her boyfriend, Mikal Middleton-Bey had spent the night drinking.

Early the following morning, the two had gotten into a verbal altercation then Landingham, who weighs about 300lbs, punched 120lbs Middleton-Bey in the face and the father-of-three grabbed her.

While Middleton-Bey was holding on to Landingham she pushed him to the floor and sat on him until he stopped breathing.

Around 5.22 a.m. Saturday morning Landingham, 25, called 911 and EMT rushed Middleton-Bey to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was pronounced.

Landingham had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Um... are you forgetting the manslaughter? Surely killing someone outweighs the "crime" of weighing 300 lbs? (The jury was hung on that latter charge anyways, so it was tossed out.)

I suppose you could try to argue that being fat was an intentional choice, while killing someone was merely an accident?

I can see why so many people are choosing to be fat nowadays. It's such an appealing choice, making life easier in so many ways.

Is that the latest excuse for being a bloater? A few years ago it was an "underactive thyroid", before that it was a "slow metabolism", and before that they were simply "big boned".

If you eat more than you need and don't get enough exercise, you get fat. Simple as that. The only endocrine problem a fat person has is that it doesn't come with chips.

Sort of... one caveat is that some unlucky people can gain weight eating a diet of 600 calories, and yet their bodies will send signals that they're starving constantly. X number of calories or X ounces of food don't have equal effect for everyone.
