'BIN LADEN WANTED ENGLAND STARS KILLED'

Sunday March 10 2002
By Neil Rowlands

Osama Bin Laden plotted to murder England stars including David Beckham and Michael Owen DURING a World Cup match according to an amazing report published on Sunday.

The News Of The World's three-page report claims Algerian terrorists were to attack during England's opening game of the France 98 finals against Tunisia in the French city of Marseille, shooting skipper Alan Shearer and blowing up keeper David Seaman and the dugout - containing manager Glenn Hoddle and substitutes Beckham and Owen - with hand grenades.

The astonishing claim is the subject of a new book by 'respected investigative writer' Adam Robinson, an expert on Arsenal-supporting Islamic fanatic Bin Laden - the man widely thought responsible for the September 11 attacks in the USA - and his al-Qaeda organisation.

Robinson claims three terrorists were to secure jobs on the ground staff at Marseille's Stade Velodrome, giving them access to the pitch during games, and were even told which specific players Bin Laden wanted them to target.

A letter apparently sent between the European chief of the Algerian GIA terrorist organisation and one of his most senior operatives refers to Bin Laden as "The Sheik" and details how the attack should unfold.

Extracts from the letter claim 'The Sheik' "asks that we observe the movements of David Seaman, the goalkeeper of England, Alan Shearer, the most famous player, and the trainer, Hoddle.

"Also, thanks be to God, his attention has been drawn to two younger players who are becoming well known, David Beckham and Michael Owen. They are not certain to be playing, but will be visible with the others at the side of the field.

"Therefore, we suggest that the point man should make his way to Seaman and blow himself up next to him. The second brother should then throw a grenade at the reserve players at the side of the field. He should keep a spare grenade to throw at the English supporters.

"The third brother should carry a gun and shoot Shearer, who will be at the opposite end of the field to Seaman."

French police deny claims the England players were a specific target but confirmed that "certain individuals were arrested in France and other countries before the World Cup as a preventative measure."

More than 100 people were arrested across Europe in the weeks before the finals, the News Of The World said.

The match went ahead without incident, England winning 2-0 with goals from Paul Scholes and Shearer.

There's more on this story at the link below plus a rather funny picture of Osama at the North Bank, Highbury, cheering on his beloved Arsenal.
Was it the name "Arsenal" with its gun reference that perhaps turned him into a Gooner?

Re: Bin Laden visited the Arsenal gift shop in Finsbury Park!!!

"TERROR warlord Osama bin Laden has been exposed as an ARSENAL fan.
Bin Laden, chief suspect behind the September 11 terrorist outrages, watched enthralled at Highbury as the Gunners beat top teams it's been revealed. And he even visited the North London club's gift shop in Finsbury Park to buy a shirt for teenage son Abdullah."

Re: Bin Laden drank at the Rose & Crown pub along with other Gooners!

He was known as "beardy Dave"!

Highbury Dave and Dagenham Dave.
One thing you must say about football and especially in England is that it draws together a wide variety of people from all sorts of backgrounds. No wonder Morrissey draws so much from it!

Re: Bin Laden was a regular at the Clock End, Highbury

Seems he didn't watch from the North bank, he saw the games from the Clock End.

"It's a well-known London fact - everyone hates the Arsenal. Now one man has been outed as a fan - Osama bin Laden. But the club are apparently unimpressed and say he would not be welcome at Highbury.

Bin Laden is reported to heve been a regular at the Clock End back in 1994, apparently happy to rub shoulders with the riff raff. A new book, 'Behind The Mask Of Terror' by Adam Robinson says that the world's most wanted man watched Arsenal beat Torino and Paris St Germain in European Cup Winners' Cup games.

Bin Laden is said to have caught the footie bug as a child in Saudi Arabia where he had regular kick abouts with his brothers. "

Re: some famous fans from the Arsenal website

Bin Laden joins Fidel Castro, Robert Maxwell, Michael Portillo, Sam Fox, the Queen Mother.

Mostly pricks if you ask me, no wonder Moz called it YOUR Arsenal.
definitely not his or mine, just the royalties alone make it hard enough to luv 'em!

Hitler stood on the Kop too!

The most interesting recent story of mass murdering political misfits to take an interest in the beautiful game was that of Adolf Hitler attending a Liverpool match during the 1930's when he lived in the area.

Interesting in a way that he didn't return as the contest was a dull, lifeless affair. No change there then, Liverpool's entertainment factor remains below sea (or Mersey) level, even today.

Hitler of course found nothing worth stopping around on Merseyside for and left within months, remarking "you scouse bastards!" as he boarded a waiting aircraft.

Killing Michael Owen though, there's a thought!
