I'm on someone else's computer and don't want to download flash, can someone give me a rundown of what's so raunchy? Is it more raunchy than the title?

The video depicts couples engaging in animalistic open-mouthed kissing and licking.

Some of the couples are beautiful. Some of them are older, plain-looking, overweight, broken-down. The 'hideous' couples start showing up later in the video, out on the street, away from the club in which the video begins. A very witty comment on sex in the culture, reality TV, and pornography's overlap with "respectable" pop music and society as a whole. There are some acts nobody wants to see old people engaged in.

I would be fascinated to sit on the other side of a two-way mirror and observe a room full of people watching this video.

Bravo to Eric Wareheim and to Depeche Mode for making a provocative video. I didn't know they made videos anymore, let alone good ones.

Aside from directing music videos, Eric Wareheim is a comic. The video is tongue (out of) cheek. It's a brilliant and disturbing parody of a science fiction mass-hysteria movie. The music creates an aural "virus" which spreads among the population. The last overhead shot of the street with everyone licking each other is a staple of SF flicks (most recently used in M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening"). It depicts a world of brainless, automatic sexual behavior transmitted through music, which itself looks like, on the one hand, a colorful, enchanting, and dynamic form of tribal expression, and on the other, the epitome of boredom. The video is a deft three-minute satire of contemporary culture. I give it five out of five stars.

I thought it was more a commentary on trends, and the trend toward mindless, extreme sex practices perpetuated by the spread (heh) of porn. I mean, money shots and anal are now standard. I think people think that's what everyone does. You've got ordinary couples making homemade porn and posting it on the internet. That's the new norm. Literally, nothing is sacred (or private) anymore. Until the next trend...

Meanwhile, vacuous pop bands who are designed to titillate and shock us just leave us cold (ok, that part is not new).

Nah. If kissing like that was featured in porn, it would become "the thing."

I don't watch porn because I've never see any porn with a sense of humor. If I'm wrong, I'd welcome recommendations.

The licking threw me off. Big time. I was looking and wondering "When is this going to end?" Oh and P.S. I can understand your embarrassment but it should have occurred years ago with the release of Songs of Faith and Devotion. Hell I am embarrassed to hint that I like Depeche Mode... a lot.

I've never been a big fan of their videos and this one doesn't change that. I do love the video to Wrong though and thought they might produce some good videos for the singles from this album. Peace proved that theory wrong but it wasn't as poor as this one.

Will there be a fourth single? Perhaps we could storyboard something better for them to use.

I certainly do agree with the general sentiment that DM's best videos were made by Anton Corbijn. The interconnected "Music For The Masses" videos are masterpieces.

Yeah, I saw the video the first day it came out and was appalled by it. They're never in their videos (really) any more. Are they too busy? I really don't understand it. This video is pure garbage.
