The video depicts couples engaging in animalistic open-mouthed kissing and licking.

Some of the couples are beautiful. Some of them are older, plain-looking, overweight, broken-down. The 'hideous' couples start showing up later in the video, out on the street, away from the club in which the video begins. A very witty comment on sex in the culture, reality TV, and pornography's overlap with "respectable" pop music and society as a whole. There are some acts nobody wants to see old people engaged in.

I would be fascinated to sit on the other side of a two-way mirror and observe a room full of people watching this video.

Bravo to Eric Wareheim and to Depeche Mode for making a provocative video. I didn't know they made videos anymore, let alone good ones.

    Hahahahahaha!

Does anyone else imagine spittle flying from a ragged-toothed grimace as she says these things, or is that just me? So many grudges, so little time.
Yes, I'm posting again, but I still hate you all. Especially you. (Not you... You're a darling.)

It depicts a world of brainless, automatic sexual behavior transmitted through music, which itself looks like, on the one hand, a colorful, enchanting, and dynamic form of tribal expression, and on the other, the epitome of boredom. The video is a deft three-minute satire of contemporary culture. I give it five out of five stars.
I thought it was more a commentary on trends, and the trend toward mindless, extreme sex practices perpetuated by the spread (heh) of porn. I mean, money shots and anal are now standard. I think people think that's what everyone does. You've got ordinary couples making homemade porn and posting it on the internet. That's the new norm. Literally, nothing is sacred (or private) anymore. Until the next trend...

Meanwhile, vacuous pop bands who are designed to titillate and shock us just leave us cold (ok, that part is not new).

But then, I've never been much of a sci-fi watcher. (The implication is that I am something of a porn watcher. This isn't really true.)

    Seconded.

So me being cool & sexy. I can live with that. Of course, being Silke, you had to add some overtones of depravity.
Well, if that fantasy floats your boat ...

    Silke darling, you're problem is that you are Silke: unfit for witty dialogue and/or a straight argument;
humour impaired and homophobic and apparently scared by the sight of male uncovered legs.

A lack of 'niveau' like a 7 year old who has to steep so low to smut another users nickname ...
awww, if I had time I would pity you, Silke.

Then again I think you might be just a cartoon character.

I'd like to understand why all the coupling in the video was exclusively male/female?

Good points all around. I agree with you. The SF link was just a stylistic touch.

That said you went a little far there with the mention of money shots and anal. They were just kissing, you know. Surely you don't think the old man was giving his wizened woman a back-door party...?

Nah. If kissing like that was featured in porn, it would become "the thing."

I don't watch porn because I've never see any porn with a sense of humor. If I'm wrong, I'd welcome recommendations.

It wasn't. Near the end, about 3:18 or so, where there a man on a motorized wheelchair thing...he is going at it with another man.

The licking threw me off. Big time. I was looking and wondering "When is this going to end?" Oh and P.S. I can understand your embarrassment but it should have occurred years ago with the release of Songs of Faith and Devotion. Hell I am embarrassed to hint that I like Depeche Mode... a lot.

Will there be a fourth single? Perhaps we could storyboard something better for them to use.
    The "Wrong" video is stunning.

That doesn't mean I want to watch it again.

If there's any doubt where Eric Wareheim is coming from, check out his video for MGMT's "The Youth":

Point made... as always. I understand but I still dislike it.

Fair enough. Like I said, it's not getting any repeat plays on my end, either, although now that I've seen the trailer for the new "Human Caterpillar" movie this video looks like "Wuthering Heights" in comparison.

I certainly do agree with the general sentiment that DM's best videos were made by Anton Corbijn. The interconnected "Music For The Masses" videos are masterpieces.

Music for the Masses is one of their more superior albums in my opinion. The Vids from Violator weren't bad either. Nugz made a post about that f-ed Human Caterpillar centipede, millipede, whatever -pede movie.

Worm, what videos from the Music for the Masses era do you recommend. 'Cause I haven't got the interest in searching for it by myself. Lazy. I open this request to the lot of you in this thread.

Corbijn directed a loosely-interlocking series of videos; watch in this order:

A Question of Time (doesn't fit in with the others, really)
    Strangelove*
    Never Let Me Down Again
    Behind The Wheel

*Make sure the version you watch is b/w. There are alternate color versions.

The tone of the b/w videos looks similar to this frame from BTW:

They're still among my favorite-ever videos.

Yeah, I saw the video the first day it came out and was appalled by it. They're never in their videos (really) any more. Are they too busy? I really don't understand it. This video is pure garbage.
