Bloody hell .... the eighties AND the ninties. It's hard to pick five. I'd say:

    The Smiths: Meat is Murder
Orange Juice: You Can't hide Your Love Forever
    Suede: Dog Man Star
    The Boo Radleys: Giant Steps
    Belle & Sebastian: Tigermilk.

These are in no particular order. .

    1. Against Perfection by Adorable
    2. The Queen is Dead by The Smiths
    3. Condition Blue The Jazz Butcher
    4. Script of the Bridge by the Chameleons
    5. Black Celebration by Depeche Mode

There are so many great albums that have been released circa 1980-2000.
The above list could never be etched in stone. These are merely some of my faves ..

Don't forget about material by Slowdive, the Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil ( It'll End in Tears and Filigree & Shadow ), House of Love, Ride, The Cure, Associates, New Order, Durutti Column etc. . .

Groo... This is very, very difficult. Some suggestions though.

    1. You Can't Hide Your Love Forever - Orange Juice
    2. Psychocandy - Jesus and Mary Chain
    3. Flip Your Wig - Husker Du
    4. The Comforts of Madness - Pale Saints
    5. Loveless - My Bloody Valentine

But I wholeheartedly agree with the other correspondent who selected the Chameleons. An excellent chouce.
