"Sex and drugs and rock n roll insurance" article with Morrissey mention - The Guardian

Intersting article about insuring world tours, needless to say our Moz gets a mention

Sex and drugs and rock'n'roll insurance - The Guardian
As tours become longer, more spectacular and represent more of an artist’s income, music biz insiders reveal that on-the-road hedonism is dying out. Well, at least it keeps the premiums low

Excerpt:

Byrne puts it more bluntly. “Non-appearance insurance is only for the people who are necessary to perform,” she says. “If, say, the sound engineer is ill, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t do the show. You can get another sound engineer but you can’t get another Damon Albarn.”

Not everyone has as glowing an appearance record as Blur. Last year, Consequence of Sound ran a feature under the self-explanatory headline “Here’s every tour Morrissey has ever cancelled.” It’s a bracing read as it becomes apparent just how many shows he has pulled for a variety of reasons, including illness, but also if venues or festivals will not go meat-free.

“There are certain artists in the limelight that insurers aren’t going to be rushing to underwrite their tours,” says James Sandom of Red Light , who represents artists such as Belle & Sebastian and Interpol. “Reputation plays a part.”

Some acts will require a full medical before an insurer will touch them. “Anything is insurable but there are artists who have got to the point where no one would quote on them,” says one well-placed source about a tour that fell apart several years ago at the planning stage. “Whitney Houston wouldn’t release any medical information but everyone knew she wasn’t well, so the brokers couldn’t provide a quote. In effect, she made herself uninsurable.”

**************************************************************************************

That might read like we are inheriting a live music scene with the rough edges sanded down to a bland finish. But, if you are paying £60 or more for a ticket, which would you prefer? Going to see an act you know will show up? Or taking a punt on a Morrissey and Babyshambles double headliner that might splutter out before the first show? Quite.

what? you can get any sound engineer to do Damon Albarn's job.:)

... which, funnily enough, omits his first ever cancelled solo date(s). His show at Dundee's Caird Hall on 15th May 1991 was cut short due to illness, and his Glasgow show scheduled for the next night was pulled completely. This was his first solo tour, and I was there - a great night at Aberdeen followed by the biggest disappointment ever.

I found it surprising that in 2015 his only cancellation was a TV appearance and he had one show postponed and he actually played it.

easy answer: he cant get insured anymore, any settlement for cancellations comes out of his pocket. we all know that moz and a quid are not quickly separated.

I am convinced that at least 75% of the cancellations over the years were a result of little more than a case of the sniffles. The stuff the rest of us (not to mention most other bands/singers) just tough out and get on with the things we have to do.

"A severe flu has spread from the opening act though the entire band, crew, and Morrissey." LOL. Some of the TTY statements over the years have just been ridiculous.

Remember that time when he said he had been 'reconstructed by a Wiltshire hospital' ( http://true-to-you.net/morrissey_news_090601_01 ), whereas in fact he was in a suite in a 5-star hotel, not a hospital - http://www.bathchronicle.co.uk/hotel-cheered-Morrissey/story-11317334-detail/story.html

I think to spare us the details... 'Wiltshire hospital' ...visited him at the '5 star' is how I read it. I don't
read any deceit in those posts, TTY /hotel. You can be 'reconstructed' by doctors who visited from that hospital
without actually having to spend time in/at the hospital.

Well, according to M-solow Staatspolizei, Morrissey should die in the gutter looking at the stars.

LOL the entire hospital visited and tended to his mozzesty at the five star hotel. mozbottism seems to know no bounds.
he meant 'the entire hospital'.
we all know that the cheese spread at the hospital was far from being adequate.

there are no gutters in the the five star hotel. penthouse suite if you want to gaze at the stars above, damon holding the curtain. kerrygold cheese plate for nibbling in front of you.
there are worse ways to go.

not the entire hospital, just a top notch team of medical specialists, and a couple of trucks worth of surgical equipment and x ray devices.

Very sweet thing to say. I am also a chronic self doubter and really hope the really nasty things people say on here don't make their way back to Morrissey. I can't imagine reading some of the things said on here. Some of the mean posts about him make me well up.

how do you KNOW he needed all that ? And if he did... why assume that he stayed the whole time of recovery in a hospital ?

you imply that he DID NOT spend all his recovery in the hospital? you imply that your idol is lying. in his tty statement all we heard was hospital we dont hear anything about the 5 star hotel.
im aghast that would imply your leader would be less than truthful.

if his condition was a serious as he had said obviously emergency medical devices were needed nearby. he said he was
'reconstructed' meaning that some serious doctoring took place with round the clock supervision. they probabl took the equipment in the ambulances.

initially, you bring up gutters how wonderful it would be for you and moz to be lying in one. then, now, you appear to have made a 360 and use it as an insult. is this what is considered, by you moz cults, suffering from 'severe flu'. acting
insanely is considered the flu? the flu is an euphemism for pitching a fit?
