Moz and Marr rumour-mongering on Holy Moly

London media-insider weekly mailout Holy Moly contains this speculative snippet re Alain's absence:

"Alain White has left Morrissey's band due to illness.

A call was made to ask if Johnny Marr would be interested.

He said no.
We're sure that this isn't because Johnny's love didn't run as deep as Alain's."

God only knows what it all means.

If this is indeed true then I'd like to send out a big "FUCK YOU!" to Johnny Marr. Any interview I've read where he's asked if he would ever play with Moz again his response has always been "no one has asked". I guess he's content with spending the rest of his life as a ghost.

I agree with both the above posts actually. Moz in a recent interview said that he has "never been approached" about working with Johnny again, and so if that is Johnny's reasoning also then it's almost preposterous. IF Johnny was asked but declined then as a Smiths fan I find that hugely disappointing, though I can easily understand why Johnny would not want to play Alain's songs as a session man just until Alain gets back. However, I also agree with the second post that this simply would not happen in a million years.

Thankyou to all who post news, but I wish in a way that people would not put out rumours about Morrissey working with Johnny again unless they are confirmed, because it's such a Holy Grail! My heart leaps every time I hear such a rumour only to be reminded very swiftly of its impossibility by both others and the abrupt return of my common sense. That's not to say people aren't entitled to post these rumours, merely that I personally wish they wouldn't. Morrissey/Marr working together again, though admittedly impossible, would for me be the best news in popular music for the last 25 years. And that's an understatement!

Haven't you heard??? Marr DID say yes; the band is being assembled as we speak. For obvious reasons Joyce and Rourke have not been invited so Moz & Marr are going to avoid any and all Smiths references by creating a new band name. They are intending to use the first initials of their respectives surnames: YES! Their new band name can be revealed here for the first time: "M & M."

"M & M's" first single has already been laid down; it's called "The Real M & M" backed by "Let Lying Dogs Sleep". The single concerns itself with the plight of a drummer being locked in the boot of a car.

    Great huh?

Oh for Christ's sake, this is a JOKE. It refers to an old rumour that Morrissey and Alain's relationahip has been more than platonic in the past.

And I used to wonder why people think Morrissey fans have no sense of humour.
