Morrissey to Curate Meltdown 2004...?

The London media rumour mill has it that Morrissey has been approached to be the guest curator for this year's Meltdown festival. Meltdown usually proves to be one of the few compensations of spending the summer in London. Each year, a guest curator is chosen to programme a season of concerts at the South Bank Centre (the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall). Past curators include Lee Scratch Perry, David Bowie and Nick Cave.

OK, so I know he's fond of NY Dolls, Jobriath, T-rex, Klaus Nomi... urh... right, but you need to be alive to perform at a festival, don't you ?

Always a good season of shows.. then again, doesn't mean he will perform himself. It's usually just an opportunity to invite who you like and are inspired by, along.. so we might see Libertines, Pony Club, Thrills, Gene(?).. etc again.. Bowie?? haha.. maybe not after they had words which is a shame. Haven or the Healers?? who knows.. that'd be cool.

He is a man of distinguished tastes. That is why Under The Influence won me over. I was hoping for a track by Jobriath, however! That is OK.

John Peel selected the artistes one year, and I think Nick Cave had a go too. This would be a good move for Morrissey because it would give him excellent exposure all over the place, as well as being able to try out some acts he might want on his Attack! label. I'm crossing my fingers that this rumour is true and that he'll have Nancy over to do a show.
