Support band for the forthcoming tour... Duvall rumored

I stumbled upon the whole section regarding the Smoking Popes disbanding back in November 1998. Well, 3/4 of the Smoking Popes, Josh and Eli Caterer, along with Mike Felumlee and ex-Kidsnack bassist John Sewell have formed Duvall. Duvall is much like the Smoking Popes. They play similar, emotional-driven rock songs led by Josh's beautiful voice. They are unbelievable. I've had the pleasure of seeing them six times in the last two months. They are currently touring the US with Ultimate Fakebook. I have, however, heard a rumour that they may tour with Morrissey this summer. I haven't heard anything more than this, but I do know that it is a possibility.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but ex-members of the smoking popes also formed a band called the alkaline trio which has gone through lineup changes but I believe still has one member of the popes. Their last album From Here to Infirmary blows away anything the popes ever did. Similar sounding but more melody and more kick to it. Check out all their records.

After meeting Morrissey in 1997 or so, a friend of mine received a Smoking Popes tape from him through the post.
Circumstantial evidence that the rumour is true, perhaps.

i don't think the rumors are true. i will ask them on the 20th when i see them next though. oh, and alkaline trio has ex-members from slapstick and tuesday; mike felumlee was in the trio, but their drug use (amongst many, many other gripes) led to his departure from the band. dan adriano and mike have a split ep comimg out on mike's own double zero records, which the popes and duvall will release all records on for the near future; though duvall is shopping for a record deal from lables that are seriously interested. oh, and alkaline trio are whiny, drugged-out, bunch of traitors. their fans are even worse! smoking popes had some origionality, and at least didn't move to la to be cool rock star bastards when they got signed. i'd rather be dead than on vagrant records.

The Drummer for the Smoking Popes was the drummer for The Alkaline Trio on thier last album From Here To Infermary. He was kicked out promptly after. There are no other band members from the popes in the Alkaline Trio.
P.S. THe Alkaline Trio's back Cataolog is much better than thier new stuff. Try the S/T or Goddammit

These guys were awful. The best thing they ever did was break up. Awful stuff! I could never figure out why Moz liked them anyways. The singer was god awful and the band sounded like something from a cheesy local bar.

Personally, i don't think they duvall would open for morrissey, it was on the tour that smoking popes opened for morrissey that lead singer josh caterer started to realize that he didn't want to end up a shut in like morrissey. you can read the whole article here,
            www.siboliban.org/smokingpopes/havejesus.html

it mentions how that was the tour that helped him to find jesus. i would like to see duvall open- i saw them a few weeks ago here in chicago and i think they're great.
