I simply do not get it. I thought this site was for fans of Morrissey and the Smiths. All I ever see on this horrible site is nothing but negativity about him. David T, I think it's time to retire this thing. I think it's ruining Morrissey, more than promoting him. If you don't like Morrissey, why come here?

The vinyl purists are always silly, but this set seems appropriate.

Anyway, it's obvious that the cover was chosen for the hard-on alone. It rivals the pencil that Alain had in his pocket during the Joe Slee shoot.

about the title and promo around the whole thing. It's called "The Smiths singles box" - but then they should have added "1" because it's only the first 10 singles (and 2 rare ones).

I'm looking forward to the other singles box as well, hoping there's 10 + 2 rarities again (let's hope there's Sweet & tender hooligan, and HSIN reissue).

...there are a couple of surprisingly basic printing errors on this release. On the insert giving details of the release dates etc, 'Hand in Glove' is listed with the release details of 'This Charming Man'- i.e. it states that it was released in November 1983 and achieved a chart position of 25. The details are correctly repeated under the following entry for This Charming Man. Also, it is stated on the label for 'That Joke...' that it is from the Rough Trade album 'Hatful of Hollow'. The original release gave 'Meat is Murder', so how Rhino have transposed the name of the wrong album instead of the correct one is a little difficult to work out. A simple proof-read would have picked these up, surely, just a bit of extra care. Otherwise, it's a well enough presented box, but it's also let down a little by the barcodes on the back of each sleeve and the slight lack of quality of the front sleeve photogaphy on each one- each looks like it's been taken from a colour photocopy of the original sleeve, or even a photocopy of a photocopy. With computers, there should be no excuses these days for any loss of quality. Given that they've also replicated the messages on the run-out grooves, it might also have been nice to replicate the 'pop-out' centres, where appropriate (all of these ones have solid centres), the original Portland Street address sleeves for the first two releases, the 'Capitol Radio' style label for This Charming Man etc, blah blah....

Okay, Morrissey chose the box cover photo, but personally I feel that a monochrome shot might have been a bit more striking, and more in keeping with the design of the original releases. It's a bit, well, colourful? A trivial point, admittedly.

I can only guess that there might be a second set in the offing, as there is no logical reason I can think of as to why they would have stopped at 'Bigmouth'. The German release of 'Barbarism...' with its unique sleeve, pre-dating 3 of the releases in this box, might have been a more obvious choice for inclusion, and could have replaced 'Bigmouth', leaving that one, the remaining UK singles, one of the foreign releases of 'Stop Me...', and maybe the Warners re-releases of 'How Soon...' and 'There is a Light...' for inclusion on a subsequent set. 'Sweet and Tender Hooligan' wouldn't fall into this category, as it didn't get a 7" release.

Not too serious, this post, just food for thought...I do not want to be shot down in flames by the more negative posters on this site who may already think that this box-set is either a waste of time, or a rip-off, or both...I'm a serious collector, and enjoy acquiring these kind of things!

I mean, it seems as if you don’t even listen to the words. Because you are not wired like that. Keep it together and quit being influenced by the “Enemy”.
Material gifts come naturally to Morrissey – but if that someone has rather more sincere traits, maybe they are right for you. Let’s see Morrissey for the beautiful person that he truly is. I already have for approximately ten years. Integrity is very important. The “Enemy” has a plan. Morrissey is right. The “Enemy” orchestrated this.
