  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Actually, my Mum warmed to him slightly after seeing The Southbank Show Smiths Special. I think she found his love of old 60s chanteuses like Cilla Black, Sandie Shaw and Timi Yuro rather endearing.
She used to express interest in his earliest solo records, and I remember she asked me to explain what 'Interesting Drug' was about, and to explain the symbolism of the video for that particular song. Try explaining school-boys in high-heels to your mother when you're 16 years old!

Also, in a moment of unprecedented weakness, my sister admitted that 'There Is A Light' is a good song.
It's my mum and my brother that I can't place with regards to Moz. I once caught my mum looking at my posters in an admiring way (I think she finds him rather attractive) and my brother (aside from saying "but he's old" - anything over 20 is old from a pre-teen perspective) does seem to like the music.
So, overall there may be hope for my family yet; it's just that my parents seem to think that Morrissey makes me nihilistic ... that couldn't be further from the truth.

My dad on the other hand is more "rockish" than my mom, and curiously so after the mid or late ninteties, when he began enjoying groups like Nirvana, Garbage, etc. When one day, as I was visiting him, and we were accidently listening to Robert Smith on the radio, I mentioned that people called Morrissey a whiner, while I thought it was actually Robert Smith's whinning I couldn't stand, my fater agreed, saying that Morrissey's lyrics were far more intelligent and Morrissey's singing more irreverent and uplifting, and his work offered more variety. I was surprised, although I tried to act like his statement was the most natural thing in the world coming from him. He usually likes the nasty, heavy-duty bands. Well, Moz is one man fits all, I guess. At least when I play him here at home, nobody grins or complains, and my father says he really loved IBEH when they played them on a (mainstream!) radio here, and he "respects the man's noticable talent". I am discreet about my fanaticism, but no one seems to mind it when it shows through... ;)

My Dad watched a few videos from my Morrissey-signed "Oye Esteban" DVD with me and my then-girlfriend Jeniffer (also a fanatic) and he kind of shook his head and didn't really get it. He is a big Elvis fan and even met the Beatles when he was stationed as a American G.I. in Hamburg,Germany in the early 60's before they got hugely famous. He later met them again in Seattle backstage (he's a retired Policemen/Detective and helped with security) and they all remebered him from the Hamburg days- except for John Lennon- who was too drunk/stoned at the time to remember his own name.

My parents actually think Morrissey and The Smiths are not too shabby. haha They both get excited for me when I go to see him live. My dad was flippin through the channels on the telly back in November and Who Put the M in Manchester was on. He was impressed by the musicianship of the band and the quality of the performance. My dad is a musician. hehe
