  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

are bigger than others is Morrissey's best song with and without the Smiths. It is catchy and smart and really makes you think. Throughout all of history sex (or more specifically how women look) is what concerns everyone. Sexuality as a basis for power and control, influencing every aspect of society. Morrissey says it subtlely, but I think it still carries the message across. Also, the send me your pillow part - that is just brilliant. I love the smell of pillows when someone you love sleeps on it. Just surreal

of this list, the best potential singles are defintely "Still Ill", "The Headmaster Ritual", "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before", "Tomorrow", "Glamorous Glue" and "Now My Heart Is Full" and likely the top pick (single-wise) would be SMIYTYHTOB. but if you take into consideration what was actually released in front of these tracks at the time they wouldve been singles, the attitude might change.

"Reel Around The Fountain" is a beautiful song, but imight question its ability asa single- especially since it would hav marked The Smiths' second ever single. instead they went on to release "This Charming Man", and idont think theres anyone who would argue against TCM as being the better of the two in terms of being a single.

"Still Ill" wouldve made a great single off The Smiths' debut (it was relased asa single in Germany), and arguably it really shouldve been released in the UK. as it was, the singles off the album became "Hand In Glove" (which was released long before the album and was a different version to the album), "This Charming Man" (which actually wasnt on the original copies of the album in the UK) and "What Difference Does It Make?" before they went on to start relasing non-album singles that were later compliled on 'Hatful Of Hollow'. ithink "Still shouldve been a UK single- certainly over WDDIM?- but as it was the singles that were released around that time were still very good and plenty.

"Barbarism Begins At Home" makes for a pretty sily single- it was released in Germany and Italy, and much later it found a token release in the UK. idont dislike it as much as idid fora time, ive begun to like it again, but istill think itd be a lousy single. the real missed opportunity from 'Meat Is Murder' has got to be "The Headmaster Ritual" which was released in Holland and Australia. considering MIM only had one real album single in the UK, that being "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" (which is great song but not exactly a great single- HSIN? was not on original copies of MIM in the UK) this seems to be a real miss. also, ithink "Nowhere Fast" was considered asa single at one time, but it didnt happen- that wouldve been excellent as well. still, with HSIN? out as well as "Shakespeare's Sister", The Smiths were still riding some great singles at the time.

"Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" is juste a bad idea asa single- especially considering what was there for single material during TQID. the real mistake was not releasing "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" asa single in '86. "The Queen Is Dead" wouldve made an amazing single too, but ican see why they wouldnt bother with that one.

"You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" wouldve been a good single, but honestly it wouldnt hav been any better than any of the other non-album singles released in the period between TQID and SHWC, and certainly not better than "Shoplifters Of The World Unite". im fine with it being shelved and put on the bside.

"Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" wouldve been an amazing single, but was another Smiths single that was shelved due to stupid worries over contraversy. nevertheless, the three UK singles for SHWC, "Girlfriend In A Coma", "I Started Something I Couldn't Finish" and "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me" were all very strong, arguably making the best set of singles in the UK from one album in The Smiths' career. it wasnt sucha huge loss as it might seem.

now the Moz singles. "Tomorrow" and "Glamorous Glue" wouldve made amazing singles both- especially "Glam Glue" to my mind- but the 'Your Arsenal' singles were still excellent. iknow people like to complain about "Certain People I Know" and even WHIWOFBS and YTOFMF (lord knows why), but these were all great singles. you can argue that "Tomorrow" and "Glam Glue" mightve been even greater, but it was still a strong set in '92.

idont think "Billy Budd" isa great single. it would be good, very good even, but ithink its a little to weird for a single- idont think it would play

How Soon is Now has certainly earned it's status as a classic over the past decade, but back in '87 before The Smiths became wrapped in nostalgia - Stop Me was probably the most recognized Smiths tune on US radio stations. Plus, it's the video that showed everyone how to dress like a Smiths fan.

Lost is a fantastic single, playable by radio even though Moz is over 40 and channel 4 wouldn't be able to avoid using it with the obvious tie in. Throw in a couple of more great b sides, rare or live tracks and it's a sure fire winner. This may be seen as a sell out, I would call it good market sense.
