  • Don't complain about lack of options. You've got to pick a few when you do multiple choice. Those are the breaks.
  • Feel free to suggest poll ideas if you're feeling creative. I'd strongly suggest reading the past polls first.
  • This whole thing is wildly inaccurate. Rounding errors, ballot stuffers, dynamic IPs, firewalls. If you're using these numbers to do anything important, you're insane.

Moz is bound to release something new. A creative fellah like him won't be held back!

Plus here is a recommendation for anyone: A completely undiscovered (in the UK) French band called 'M', who are amazing and have gone down a storm in France will be playing Shepherds Bush Empire on 20th June - tickets 0870 771 2000.

Hey people, I need help here. I'm going to the Isle of Wight festival(to see Morrissey for the FIRST time! Argh!), and as I am unexperienced in the case of festivals, I have a few queries.

a) Will we find out beforehand what time Moz will be on?

b) If so, when?

c) And can anyone estimate around what time he will be on?

If you reply and help me out, then I will be very grateful, and if you don't, then I will be angry!

The first new song "Victoria Twilight" is apparently very strange and very long and has a very avant garde feel with lots of strange sound effects and white noise. It's supposed to be brilliant, but I'm only going on what a source told me. One of the lyrics is:

      "Vicoria twilight, oh Victoria twilight,
Viewed through a gap in the metalwork,
      Oh you said,
      And then you went,
      It was your fault,
      All your fault"

The second new song, "Lest We Forget" is apparently quite political and quite heavy, heavier than anything from Quarry possibly with a - gasp - heavy metal influence. It's all very tasteful though with beautiful vocal melody and spiralling guitars. The description I was given is "T Rex on acid with Metallica's guitar technique"

The final new song, "Where is the Exit" is supposed to be quite upbeat and poppy, a little like "Suedehead" or "first of the gang"

      One lyric is
      "Where is the exit?
      Where is the sign?
      I am yours,
      And you are not mine"

Apparently it's likely to be the first single and contains a line about a "Book wrote in jest, written in blood, containing poisonous lies"

And Alain, well, one could say the chances of his being present whatever his availability might be slim.

I've noticed some chatter in other areas of the site about Morrissey appearing at Meltdown simply b/c Patti Smith is curating. Bar his esteem for her and the Redondo Beach cover, I don't recall any indication that she is familiar with his work let alone would request his performance. What other grounds would people have to assume that he would be performing? His curatorship last year has no relevance to his continued involvement.

Well, I wish in a way Broken was telling the truth - the listed songs actually sounded quite interesting (avant-garde, upbeat pop, spiralling guitars) and would probably be great IF Morrissey WERE really writing them, which I'm sure we'll all agree he hasn't. The only new song he MAY play is 'Playing Easy To Get'. I agree with the poster who said that this will not be kind of show where he will debut new material. Bearing in mind the hostility that greeted the announcement of his appearance on the IOW website, I think the set will be similar to Reading. Of course, there will be some changes, but he will surely not play 'Ambitious Outsiders' to a non-partisan crowd!! Same with 'Teachers', unless it is an edited version. I would love to hear 'Handsome Devil' or 'What She Said', though the 'Rank' version of 'What She Said is probably unsurpassable.

Anyway, my source (i.e. a complete guess)tells me that the set will be:

How Soon Is Now?/The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get/First Of The Gang To Die/I Want The One I Can't Have/I Like You/Irish Blood, English Heart/I'm Playing Easy To Get (possibly)/Suedehead/Let Me Kiss You/Bigmouth Strikes Again/Come Back To Camden/Still Ill/Panic/Sister I'm A Poet/Jack The Ripper/There Is A Light That Never Goes Out//You Know I Couldn't Last.

I believe the 2004 set will be shaken up slightly, but not much.

Quarry will again by strongly represented, but I think a couple of great solo stuff completely neglected on the 2004 tour should be added, like perhaps Suedehead, Speedway, Now My Heart Is Full or one of Arsenal's tracks even. If I had my way, each of his solo albums would be represented in some way... People who want more more more Smiths either haven't listened to ALL of his solo stuff and are relying on Attack's releases or don't actually like his solo stuff - in which case, why would you want to go to a Morrissey gig. I love the smiths' work as much as the next person, but I do feel that it slightly puts Morrissey down, having to dish out the "old classics" to please the fans, when he could be doing exactly the same with the amazing Arsenal and Vauxhall tracks. I also think that Maladjusted and Southpaw should be represented in some form... Morrissey tries to hide the fact that he loves southpaw? Why? Be proud of a creation that some of us fans, including myself, really love... and play Southpaw live for the first time ever! :D
