"A few facts" from Gary Day (?) on the discussion board

Sounds good to me:

A few facts...

Posted By: Gary Day
Date: Friday, May 5 2000, at 4:13 a.m.

Ok - I'm a bit sick of all the misinformation that I keep reading on here...so allow me, your humble bass-player, to set a few things straight.

1) We (that is Moz and us) do not currently have a manager or a record deal. We are working on the record deal, but will probably not bother with the manager, as they are just greedy tykes.

2) Maverick, the lovely Madonna's record label, asked for a demo from us, but we have nothing to prove to anyone, so we told them politely, but firmly, to f@*K off.

3) The tour was a classic, and there was little or no tension between us or Moz. Alains back held out, and Spike fitted in nicely, if only we could do something about Boz's 2 am renditions of 'Feelings'.

4) John Cale has been sounded out about producing, but nothing is definite, and I wouldn't be too surprised to see an old face returning behind the desk...

5) Moz has written a lovely duet, which is currently being played with Alain filling in the seconde voice, but when it's recorded, we have someone else lined up...place your bets now (laughs evily as he dangle a juicy carrot in front of the Moz faithful)

Well, that'll do for now - I just thought you needed some info as things have gone a bit quiet post-tour. Anyway - I'd better go, if the boss catches me on here, I'm liable for twenty lashes...

Your friend and mine
Gaz

Linder Sterling 'In Conversation' with Philip Hoare (Manchester - May 11), feature in The Guardian

From Rachel McKeon:

The Cornerhouse is on Oxford Street in Manchester and is also currently showing The Return of Linderland exhibition. The box office number is 0161 200 1500.

In Conversation: Linder Sterling with Philip Hoare
Thursday, May 11, 2000 6.30 - 8.00pm

Philip Hoare, biographer of Noel Coward, author of Wilde's Last Stand and Co-curator of the touring exhibition Icons of Pop, was also an early punk propagandist, publishing Linder Sterling's graphics in the fanzine Elemental in the late 70's. This 'In conversation' will be an opportunity to discuss Linder Sterling's roots in punk and its legacy for her current work in The Return of Linderland. Touching on ideas around social dissension, the artist as performer and the influence of pop culture in Sterling's work, this event will act as a forum for debate with opportunities for questions from the audience.

Tickets from Box Office: £3.50 full / £2.50 concessions

From Ben Lilly:

Below is link to an interesting article relating to Linder's (a.k.a Linda Sterling, a.k.a Linda Mulvey) most recent art exhibition. The article is somewhat unique as it actually delves a bit into her past and even contains the eye-brow raising snippet - "her former lover Morrissey". Ahh, the British press.

Box set mention on nme.com

First with the link is Daniel Butt:

Morrissey's Single Life

MORRISSEY will release a box set in June featuring his first ten singles as a solo artist.

The set, called 'The HMV CD Singles 88-91', will span the singles Morrissey released between 1988-91, all of which are now deleted in the UK. Each single will feature the original artwork, and the set will be housed in a cigarette-shaped box.

The singles featured in the box set are: 'Suedehead', 'Everyday Is Like Sunday', 'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys', 'Interesting Drug', 'Ouija Board, Ouija Board', 'November Spawned A Monster', 'Piccadilly Palare', 'Our Frank', 'Sing Your Life' and 'Pregnant For The Last Time'.

A spokesperson for EMI told nme.com: "We've had lots of requests from fans to re-release Morrissey's singles in a set with all the B-sides. We've never produced a box set so this is an opportunity to give fans something special. We're considering releasing a second volume in the future."

The set is released on June 19 through EMI, priced £30. The singles will also contain all the original B-Sides.

Metallica and Napster

Mailing from the Yahoo! club "Morrissey Loves Us":

IMPORTANT PLEASE HELP THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM

Not only did Metallica sue Napster and charge its fans as criminals but in the May 1998 Spin magazine, drummer Lars Ulrich, said this about Morrissey:

"Morrissey isn't he that fairy with the rabid fans. No I never liked him, I'm the type of guy who would beat on Morrissey fans if I saw them in fact I often did. The Smiths weren't an important band."

Yes, I'm as offended as you are, but this Napster thing has gone to far, protect yourself, the internet and freedom , write your thoughts to the people

First Tell Lars what you think of his music:
email@metallica.com,

Then tell his record company about Morrissey
marketing@elektra.com,

Thanks for you time

Chino Moreno (Deftones) mentions Morrissey... again

From Ferni Zavala:

Seems like I'm the only one who cares... but just thought I'd pass along, that one of the best heavy rock bands Deftones cite Morrissey as an influence, on there new album White Pony... they have done over 8 covers of Smiths and Morrissey songs... this was found on their website...

Street Carp (a track off White Pony)
"A classic Deftones song, with a rolling riff and some really interesting chords in the chorus. the vocals are kinda crazy - I'm singing out loud over the top of the music, like (the Smiths front man) Morrissey or something, a cool contrast"
