Upcoming mystery duet revealed?

Anonymously sent (update 5/15 - please read the response to this rumor) :

"Gary's Letter"

I have been working closely with M since Southpaw, and was interested to read the letter from Gary Day.

As it happens, it is unlikely that it actually was Gary who submitted the info, as I doubt very much he would have used his actual name. However, whoever it was does seem to have most of the facts right.

The most exciting news is of the duet, which will be even more exciting when everyone learns who it is M has lined up to sing with. It would be cruel not to give some clues I suppose, and I think M wants to give this some early publicity, so where better to start?

The guy (and it is a guy) is actually one of M's new neigbours, but is more renowned for his acting than his singing, although I'm sure under M's watchful eye and dulcit tones, he will do more than ok.

Ok, that's enough clues - I don't want to give it away. Besides, I'm feeling very SLEEPY now, so I think I will retire to bed and listen to Hatful of HOLLOW. Ooops, I've already said too much...

Has Morrissey gone Hollywood? However, if he is going to sing with an actor I'm glad it is Johnny Depp who is by far my favorite actor over the past decade. Although I am still skeptical, this will indeed intrigue us since it makes one wonder if Moz is hanging out with such Hollywood elite, what next: Moz in a Johnny Depp film! Stay tuned.

Oh god, I really hope this isn't true!! Why doesn't Morrissey team up with a REAL singer? If this is true, I hope Mr.Depp has a decent voice. Can Moz sink any lower?? I mean is Morrissey that much of a nobody these days that he has to beg his neighbors to sing with him? Please Morrissey, if you are to do a duet, do it with someone other than Mr.Depp!

I thought Depp had moved away to England or something. Something about his not liking the violence in LA, it also says one of Morrissey's new neighbors. Hasnt Moz been in LA for like 3+ yrs now? 3 yrs doesnt sound new to me. Has anyone else moved in close to Moz in the last 6 months??????

Ray, you rock!

As for Johnny, I'll also believe it when I see it, but he does have a good voice. And, keep in mind, although he is a Hollywood pretty boy, he has shown integrity in both the (majority of) movies that he chooses to star in and the quality of his acting. Johnny Depp is definitely the only pretty-boy actor who has my whole-hearted respect.

The report about the duet is actually true. The title of the song is called 'Weepy Wallow' and in the video Morrissey is seen wallowing in self pity because a headless horseman ignores his advances. The horseman is unmoved and knocks our morbid friend out cold with a well thrown decapitated head ! The closing shot sees Morrissey eating a beef burger in the forest while mumbling something about Manchester and the need to repair a punctured bicycle. Creepy.

Ok, I do believe that I've gotten my point across. I didn't believe the first "Gary Day" posting nor do I believe this one is the genuine article either.

It smells to me that someone is trying to still up the muck to distract us from the fact that Morrissey doesn't have a label nor does he have any new(ish) material (although the b-sides that have come out (Lost, This Is Not Your Country, et al.) have been fairly good.

I myself will sit back and now watch the carnage unfold and see what happens....Should be fun either way.

I think the Mozza himself was the Gary Day
poster. There was something very Morrissey about
that message, a certain sarcasm and wit,
although very subtle..and as for Johhny Depp..
the first thing that came to mind is the media
attention he will get..i can see the edition
of Entertainment Tonight already..or Access Hollywood or ..Hard Copy? Hell, does Hard Copy even exist anymore? Anyway, that's very odd and
peculiar..but i think it's all real, because
no one..NO ONE could make up stuff like that.
I can tell these things..no one would go out
of their way to explain things throughly and
thoughtfully..usually when people faked those kind
of messages they were all "Morrissey is retired" and that's it..this is for real guys..

for the guy who wants to know what depp's band "p" sound like- he doesn't sing, he only plays guitar, the singer is gibby from the incomparable butthole surfers- one of the best bands of all time. p are okay. the record was worth the dollar I paid for it. The only really great song is an amazing cover of daniel johnston's "I save cigarette butts". If you don't know daniel j. you should check him out. he's crazy and sings funny and writes really beautiful songs about caspar the freindly ghost and other important topics that he's obsessed with. "I save cigarette butts for a poor girl across town." Who can't relate to that.
no offence to the amazing Johnny Depp, but I'd rather see Moz sing with Daniel Johnston or Gibby Haynes or Johnny Cash for that matter.

Johnny Depp is an intriguing actor who truly needs a good/great role to prove his worth. However, there is no way he will be singing with Mozzer. Somebody who is a little too into Morrissey has been waiting for months to use the "Morrissey's next door neighbor is Johnny Depp!" info. What's next, Morrissey rips off his mask and we find he's a 70 year old James Dean?

Johnny Depp working with the original Cry Baby (our beloved Moz)? This is all too weird. What would Siouxsie say about this? Then again her vocals were done in a different studio. Somehow I think Moz would want to get near more than just Johnny's "scissor" hands if you know what I mean!

never have i been as frightened as i am now.

weird enough, i was thinking, "hmm, what if had befriended one of the neighbors and got them to do it...?" and when the only name that pops in your mind is "Johnny Depp", you then wonder who lives two doors down.

Of course, i was thinking:

this person sings
this person is known for singing
this person must be a rock God(dess) of some sort whose talent Moz either revered from childhood, or another guy like the singer from Sack who sings just like Moz.

Hmm. I don't know if I believe this or not.
I guess it's possible. Depp is very into music.
He appeared on a Shane MacGowan and the Popes
album as well.

To the person who said something about Depp leaving L.A.....I think he lives in both L.A. and
France, last I heard.

I don't know. I kinda hope it's true. Sounds like it would be a fun song! But I'm not quite believing it yet!!

Depp is a pretty boy, but he's a pretty boy with substance. He's got a kick-ass movie career, where he's intelligently chosen to work with the best filmmakers rather than just go for the big Hollywood sell out flicks. I especially liked Dead Man.

Johnny Depp is one of the best actors of our time. He could easily be the next Tom Cruise, but he refuses to take roles like that typical action hero scenerio type stuff. And his french wife Vanessa Paradis has a cool voice. And i think the neighbor thing is misleading you all. I bet of all thing its done with Vanessa rather then Johnny. She has a cool voice and a great pop sound to her album. Not to mention very stunning.

David Letterman said this about Johnny Depp, which i truly believe, "Your the coolest person on earth, no really..." But if its really Johnny whos going to sing with Morrissey. I rather hear Jude Law on that duet.

Depp sings lead vocals on the Oasis contribution to the album - a song called Fade Away. It's pretty money actually - better than the Liam Gallagher sung version.

I have no idea if this rumor is true, but 2 things I can confirm are absolutely true:

1. Johnny Depp currently owns a home in both France and Los Angeles. The one in LA is very nice with a large gate around it. His manager/b*tch named Pink resides there full time.

2. Morrissey lives nearby.

I've been working close to M's hairplugs the last two tours and I was interested in the "anonymously sent" letter.
As it happens, the letter is unlikley "anonymously sent" as the author is desperate for attention.
The most exciting lie is of the duet, which will be even more exciting when everyone is tricked into believing it's Johnny Depp, M's new neigbour, more renowned for his looks than his acting.

Morrissey-Depp :not a bad idea!
I`ve seen Johnny play guitar few years ago in Belgrade - it was a promotion of Kusturica`s movie "Arizona Dream"-Johnny was performing with local band "The Partybreakers" (on the same occasion famous directors Jim Jarmush and Emir Kusturica also took part )- he`s good ,really, as the guitar player, but I can`t swear that I heard him sing !

I'm inclined to think this is BS, but who knows. Also, there were other male acotrs in "Sleepy Hollow" besides Depp, though I think Depp would do a great job as his singing with Oasis on the Help album was good, better than Liam, that's for sure. I just don't see it being Christopher Walken, for some reason. Jeffrey Jones was also in Hollow, so perhaps it is him, but he seems like too much of an idiot to be friends with Moz. I met him on the tube when I was in London, and he was a nice guy, but seemed quite moronic, for lack of a better word.

Ok, I'll point it out to all of you who still haven't worked it out. Cast your memories back and you will recall that both Sleepy and Hollow were two of the seven dwarfs. Moz is clearly planning a Disney musical spectacular surrounded by animated characters, little furry animals and things like that. Anyway I have seen a preview of the first song on video and the lyrics are fantastic. Moz is surrounded by mushroom fairy rings as he sings 'Zipadee do daar, zipadee day, my oh my what a meloncholic day.' He then proceeds to tap dance (quite maniacally) with a squirrel resting on his shoulder, before moving onto his next song called Half a Dwarf. Again great lyrics 'Sixteen Grumpy and Bashful that's the story of my life'. The scene ends with them all being showered in rainbow pixie dust (with enhanced computer imagery) and Moz swinging Dozey over his head in place of his usual Gladioli. Interesting, but a little disturbing.

He didn't sing lead on that version (noel did), he only played guitar. in fact, he only sang backing vox on the line "the dreams we have as children fade away" and even that much was with Liam & a female singing too.

Congratulations Janie!
You've given the best suggestion,so far,to re-place the idea of a Moz/Depp collaboration. Peter Murphy is just as handsome as Moz, and also is owner to a fine singing voice, aswell. M's modern style of vocal would be well balanced with p.m.'s. Even though I truly doubt the M/D idea to be true, I do hope that M tries to record another duet to make up for the lowly rated "Interlude". Johnny is great and all, I love all his films and his acting, but can he really sing?

Yeah, Morrissey and Johnny Depp singing a duet. It's true, you know. And so were all the other rumors:

1. Morrissey and Johnny Marr will play together at Coachella.

2. Morrissey will appear on "Siempre en Domingo" while he's in Mexico.

3. The Pittsburgh show will be rescheduled.

4. Morrissey is no longer a vegetarian (think back to last summer).

5. Morrissey is going to sing a duet with someone (deja vu) at the show at the Universal Amphitheatre.

6. Morrissey is looking to buy a house in Portugal.

Yep, that's right. You heard it here first. And last. Let's not forget the rumors still pending:
(a) Moz's next album will be Mexican-themed, but titled "Irish Blood, English Heart"; and (b) Moz will be playing in Australia and some other places sometime late this summer.

I'm betting the duet will feature Britney Spears. Or Ricky Lake.

2) Mexican TV show rumor refuted as a joke a few minutes after it was posted.

3) Pittsburgh I don't know about -- but it could still be rescheduled this year.

4) "Morrissey no longer a vegetarian" ?? -- where did you find that, can you provide a link?

5) Duet at Universal Amphitheatre rumor was never posted on this site.

6) Looking for a house in Portugal -- true as far as I know. There have been others to back it up.

You didn't post the rumors that turned out to be true, such as those about the tour last year and this year.

About the first letter, I do believe that it was posted by Gary Day or by someone who is working closely with them. It could not be Morrissey who posted it, however, because Morrissey is (much) more dramatic than the style adopted there.
The second post is very curious indeed... And in case it's true I just wonder if Morrissey wanted that to be revealed... Perhaps we should be careful there. That person says so many times that cannot tell the secret, but at the same time makes the whole thing pretty obvious.

A few questions and comments:

1. Where exactly does that "Gary Day" post mention Sleepy Hollow?

2. Does Moz really have hair plugs? It doesn't look as though he does. He looked better in '97 with the shorter hair. It made hime look younger.

3. Regarding the "neighbour" comment. We use proper english in Canada as well.
"And it's ZED, not ZEE, ZED!!"

The final piece on the video was a duet with Moz and some Bruce Springsteen raspy type belter. It was awful. You could barely hear Moz. Or want to hear Moz. Moz just sounded like a quiet moan.

We all know that Morrissey's career is commercially in a coma. That, in a way, is a good thing. Have you heard the gems they're playing on the radio? The station that was once his home, here in L.A., now plays more metallica and korn than anything else. When was the last time you heard him on KROQ? Probably never again now that Richard Blade is gone. It's a compliment these days to not be commercialy popular, it shows his listeners have taste. For him to stoop as low as to duet with a film star to promote sales, would taint his reputation for having good judgement, taste, and style forever. I mean does any one remember 21 Jumpstreet? If doing a duet with dreamy teen show hunks is the move he wants to make, than I hear Brian Austin-Green from 90210 is looking to lace some slammin' tracks wit' his new homie Morri-say!

"David T.":
The point of my post was merely to illustrate that that rumors about Morrissey fly about all the time (some more plausible and some more ridiculous than others). I'm not saying anything about what is posted on this site per se; I'd rather hear the silliest-sounding rumors than no news at all. All I'm saying is this Johnny Depp rumor sounds to me to be at about the same level of ridiculousness as the Johnny Marr Coachella Rumor and the Siempre in Domingo Rumor. But of course, I haven't any inside info.

As for the Moz no longer a Vegetarian rumor: No, it wasn't posted on this site as news, but as several threads on the discussion board. No, I don't have a link. The duet at the Universal Amphitheatre rumor wasn't posted on this site, either. Your post seems to indicate that you think that we can only get our information (or at least our valid information) from this site. Hmmmm...

Anyway, strange things happen everyday. You wouldn't know any "valid" info about a tour in Australia, would you??

Hello, I am the ghost of Judy Garland, I was hung by my pretty white...well, I could say more, but you get the general idea. You are all wrong. The upcoming duet will be with none other than myself singing along with that ever morbid character you all know as "Morriszee". Some of you might recall a song which was written about me and how much he wished I was still alive. The song I believe is called something like,"Where'd She Go? Where'd She Go?" The man sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for this chance to record along side lovely me. As a result I've zoomed rollerskating back from the grave to record with the Man who sold his soul.

p.s. Once again, I must say, S.T.E.V.E.N....P.U.S.H.O.F.F.
