Smiths mention in Melissa Auf der Maur interview

From Susheel M. Daswani:

Read this on www.blamo.org/sp:

"Q: Most of these songs are very emotional. Never mind just playing the notes, the personal investment must be considerable as well.
A: That is very true. Obviously I've been a big fan of the band since before Gish, and I've followed the career and the albums of this band very closely. Being a girl who first fell in love with The Smiths and The Cure and Tears for Fears, I realized I've always liked the melancholy music. The other day, in Albany [N.Y.], we were playing in a mall outside a Sears and a Payless Shoes, a huge mall setting and it's, like, silly and we're like the weird punk rock people at the mall; you see old ladies walking by. As soon as we start playing, the whole cloud of intensity comes across and I realize, "Wow, I'm playing in one of those bands that I used to listen to," where I would dive into my emotional dark side and turn to [the music] for shelter. The last band I was in was a very different emotional experience."

Glad to hear the Smiths influence extends to the Pumpkins (my two favorite bands)!!

She deffinately has good taste, afterall she did pick Morrissey as Sexiest Male of all time. Also It was a great choice to leave hole for Smashing pumpkins-i can stand their music alot more then Hole's (terrible) And i love to see female bass players in bands!

The Pumpkins aren't awful, but damn, Billy Corgan's lyrics SUCK. I prefer Hole.

Thank God she decided to leave that whore Mrs. Love!!!!!!!!! Best decision she will probably ever make. She is a talanted musician, and she needed to be in a band that generally makes intersting music.

melissa is nice looking but that is all i would give her. as a musician, anyone could play those 2-string bass parts she came up w/ for hole. as far as the smashing pumkins, they are a better band than hole, but only slightly. the lesser of 2 evils.

I like Hole. If you think Courtney's a whore, you're SEXIST. Billy's music is just ugly.

If you (boy or girl) will do anything for money, fame or attention, you're a whore.

It's really that simple!

I agree...most people calling Love a whore are
being rather sexist. She's not acting any differently than scores of male rockers, but
she gets singled out. Although after seeing the documentary "Kurt & Courtney" I do think she's
a hypocrite (about free speech) and probably not
a great person. But who knows...we don't know her.
Her music is often great, that's what counts.

I love the way Melissa says "obviously" she's been a big fan of the Pumpkins since before "Gish." Whatever!

People only got into Hole when Courtney's husband died. Corgan's got talent and Courtney was married to a talented guy.

Oh Please just shut up about them!! Mrs. Love is a big whore and the Smashing Pumpkins were good at one time and sorry if I insult someone but they just simply suck big time now.

Actually, LoafingOaf, Melissa really has been a big fan of SP since before Gish. I've heard she was even in a band that opened up for SP back in their early days.

I think the move from Hole to SP was a great one. SP isn't as good as Moz, but they've made some incredible songs (Disarm, Mayonaise, 33, Muzzle, Porcelina come to mind). Their Infinite Sadness stuff captured me almost as much as a good Moz albumn. I, for one, am interested in hearing what they come up with when Melissa, a fellow Moz fan, enters into the studio with them.

about SP new stuff..i heard their new single from the album "makina:the machines of god" and its title is "everlasting gays (gaze?)" could that be mellisa`s contribution?
now really, the pumpkins are a great band.
maybe just a little too metal sometimes.

Smashing pumpkins are the best rock band out today. I love the smiths and morrissey, also. Mellissa just has great taste in music. And i think all you people who are into the great Mozzer should check out some of the pumpkins records especially Machina and Adore. I think thier is great sadness and great beauty in thier music especially thier softer songs that i think people who love the Moz would appreciate.
